NEED HELP ASAP

ok ladies here is the situation and i am sorry in advance for it being long.. i currently work for a firm since i was 16 i am now 25 .. $16 an hour 40 hours a week, no benefits, etc.. they set up a 401k which they deposit money into .. about $1k a year is what they put in.. DH is in a job transition and no medical benefits for the time being.. at the same time DH and I are ttc and now know that TTC will be a challenge for us all thanks to me .. and my female issues.. long story short i have 2 job offers and have to decide by 4pm today so here they are:

JOB 1: at a surgical and vascular Dr. .. i would be doing front desk .. about 5 minutes from my house... 42 1/2 hours a week.. 1/2 of lunch each day so it works out to 40hrs a week, 1 week vacation and 3 sick days for the first year at $15.00 an hour.. they do offer medical benefits of which i would have to pay $266.00 a month towards and it would be with VYTRA/HIP.. after 2 years i can do a 401k .. and i get 2 weeks vacation (10 days)... salary review every year..

JOB 2: at a non profit organization... straight salary 40 hour work week with one hour lunch .. so i will be working only 35 hours a week, medical benefits which i only have to pay $115.00 amonth total for DH and I and its with GHI, pension, long term disability, dental, 401k, bearevment leave, family leave,... all of which i do not have to pay for the only i pay for is medical.. this position pays $30,000 for the year.... this job is also 5 minutes from my house.. room for growth within the organization, salary is reviewed on fiscal year terms .. and is according to a budget ... 12 days vacation, 9 sick days paid holidays, 2nd year 15 days vacation , 9 sick days , 2 personal days, paid holidays

So my question to you ladies is which would you chose

Re: NEED HELP ASAP

I would take the job with all of the benefits, so job #2. Plus there is room for growth with that position.

Re: NEED HELP ASAP

i would go with #2 as well, plus it's 5 min from home, can't beat that. If you plan to TTC soon, you definitely need to have all those great medical benefits that #2 offers.

good luck!

Re: NEED HELP ASAP

JOB #2

You will be working less, so you would be making more per hour - plus the benefits are AWESOME... plus you pay less for them than job#1 - so you would still be making more $$ w/ job#2. Job#2 has soo many better perks and benefits in the long run, and esp since you will be TTC - you'd want the best medical care for you and your family, and job#2 has that!

Re: NEED HELP ASAP

I would choose job #2 because it offers you more.

The salary is a bit less than the hourly one, but you pay less towards your health insurance. #2 also offers a pension, which is a rarity. If they contribute to the pension instead of taking it out of your salary, that is free money. 401K is a good thing, take advantage of it and MAX your contributions while you are young. Pays off big in the end.
GHI is good medical coverage, dental is a big plus, not everyone offers it. Long term disability is also a great thing, hope you will never have to use it.
Plus #2 also gives you more time off. That will be very important once you have a baby. Did you find out what their maternity leave policy is ?
Future growth is also important at your age.

Your benefits sound quite similar to mine. I've been with my company for 14 years now.

Re: NEED HELP ASAP

Regarding the 401K that company #2 offers
Do they match your contribution up to a certain percentage ?

Very important question because then again, it is free money. My company matches 4.5% of my gross salary (their max amount), and I contribute 13% of my gross salary.
My husband will have higher pension payments when he retires, but I have a lot more in my 401K to draw from when I retire.

Later on, find out if you can roll the 401K from your first job into the 401K plan of your second job.

Re: NEED HELP ASAP

#2!!! Better benefits, room for growth, close to home (although they both are, but still). Also if it's $30K a year for 35 hours a week x 52 weeks, it comes out to $16.48 an hour, which is more than the other job per hour. Yes, it's less hours per week, but on an hourly basis you'd be making more, AND you'd be paying less for the insurance coverage.

So overall for sure I'd go with #2. Good luck!
