For Brides interested in Costa Rica......

I thought I would share ( I was thinking of Tarakinspa). In Sunday's Newsday, Liberty Travel was advertising 8 night packages to C.R. 2 nights in San Jose (Tryp Carabia or Melia Cariari) and 6 nights in Guanacoste (Sol Hermosa Hotel and Villas Beach or Melia Playa Conchal All Suits Beach and Golf Resort). For $1059 with first choices of hotels and $1289 for second set of hotels. Does this sound good and does anyone have any feed back on these hotels????? THANKS!!!!

I dont know FH is not really into the small plane and possibility of not so fancy accomodations, he wants to go to hawaii but i dont know if we can afford it

there are plenty of fancy accomodations, but the small plane thing can only be gotten around if you drive. Depending on where you go, you can drive everywhere.

Re: For Brides interested in Costa Rica......

My honeymoon has DEFINITELY been the hardest thing to decide on. 1st I wanted S. Africa.....way too much $$$$. Now I'm thinking Brazil, not sure. Costa Rica appeals to my FI but I hear September is the rainy season (we would leave 9/28/03 and come back around 10/6). Is the weather really bad at that time????? THANKS!!!!

Re: For Brides interested in Costa Rica......

Karina,

Hey! I already went through all of this with Tara a few months back and I gave her a LOT of info so I'm not sure where they are getting the idea that Costa Rica doesn't have fancy accomodations! They have a lot of beautiful hotels (five star) and the country itself is extremely beautiful. My husband & I can't wait to go back!!! But to answer your question regarding weather, here's what I found from a Costa Rica Website:
On the Caribbean slope the rainy season begins from mid to late April and continues through December and sometimes January. The wettest months are July and November, with a dry spell that occurs around August or September. Major storms, called 'temporales del Atlantico' occasionally buffet this slope between September and February, when it will rain continuously for several days; but an average rainy season day will begin clear with a few hours of sunshine that will give way to clouds and rain by the afternoon. In contrast, the driest months of February and March, might be almost entirely without rainfall.

On the Pacific slope the rainy season begins in May and runs its course until November. Here again, days often begin sunny and pleasant, with rains coming later in the day. This is a period in which the trade winds coming from the north-east are much reduced in intensity, and as a result storms often come in from the Pacific Ocean in September and October. In the northern half of the country the Pacific slope experiences an intense dry season, in which no rain may fall for several months. The forests of the North-West are to a large extent deciduous, letting their leaves fall in order to conserve water. Winds can be very strong, occasionally reaching speeds of 90 km/hr in the lowlands, although they average more around 20 km/hr. The whole Central Valley, in which the capital is situated, experiences a mild, pleasant dry season that is matched by moderate temperatures for most of the year, and a lower than average amount of rainfall. Early settlers prized the area for both its mild climate and fertile soils. The southern half of the Pacific slope is much wetter than its northern counterpart, with a shorter dry season and longer and heavier afternoon rains in the wet season.

Karina, have you ever considered Belize???? We are going there in a couple of weeks for our honeymoon & from what I can see, it's also a beautiful country, peaceful and a lot of Hollywood types flock there because of the fact that it's still a undiscovered treasure. Madonna goes there frequently, Francis Ford Coppola even owns a five star hotel there. Let me know if you would like some more info!

Re: For Brides interested in Costa Rica......

THANK YOU SOOO MUCH EVELYN!!!!!!!!!! From the great info. that you provided me it seems that Sept and Oct. ARE the rainiest
It has been so hard for us to decide because we are O.K with going anywhere as long as it doesn't make us go bankrupt, LOL!!!! I know my FI mentioned Belize (as well as the Greek Isles, Acapulco etc..) but we really didn't look into it too much. Do you mind if I ask you some questions??? What a pain in the a** I am. What travel agent did you book with and what hotels are you staying at??? It's rude to ask how much you are paying so can you give me a ball park figure??? If you want to forum mail me, that's cool. Again, thanks you so much!!!!!

P.S I saw the thread you did for Tara and that's what inspired me to look into this but my main concern was the weather, not the accomodations. I think every country has good and bad places to stay. Fancy accomodations are everywhere

Re: For Brides interested in Costa Rica......

Curly how about Spain? I LOVE Spain. I keep telling FH once he goes he will love it as much as I do and will want to move there after retirement. That was my plan before I met him It doesn't have the island exotic feel but it was so romantic seeing the older couples walking on the beach hand in hand. Eating on the boardwalk of San Sebastian. I was in San Sebastian which is a party scene! The other city I visited was Pamplona, the running of the bulls takes place there. But it will be cooler there in September.
Just another idea for you. I hope I didn't confuse you more.

OK, I think my response was too long or something, but let me see....No problem...ask away babe!!!

I'm staying at one of the islands they call Cayes (Pronounced Keys), called Ambergris Caye, it's the most popluar one. It's where they filmed Tempation Island and Madonna got her inspiration to write her song 'La Isla Bonita'. I'm staying a two places, first one is Victoria House,

then we're staying at Ramon's Village where they just filmed an episode of 'Wild on E' not too long ago.

Then we're staying a week at San Ignacio at 2002 Eco-Tourism Award Winning Chaa Creek Cottages

Re: For Brides interested in Costa Rica......

Yeah, we went to CApe Cod & Rhode Island last week, our 'Official Honeymoon' is next month, it's been about two years since we went on vacation, our last vacation was to Costa Rica!!! We're making up for lost time (Actaully saving up for our wedding! ).

Okay, part II:

We are also doing a couple of days in Tikal, Guatemala & hiking up the Mayan Ruins then ending our trip in Belize City. Everything, including all transportation to & from all our hotels, plus our own guide in Tikal and a couple of other tours (plus remember we're staying at all the Honeymoon suites in Belize) cost us a little over $4000 for two weeks. Our airfare was about $1000.
It probably would have been less if we weren't going to Guatemala.

Lastly....I always make my own reservations online, this gives me the oportunity to research the countries I'm interested in & I learn more that way, but this time, while surfing the net I came across a small company owned by two Americans who vacationed in Belize and fell in love with the country & decided to move their & open up their own tourism agency. Their names are Mike & Donna & they run Belize-Eco Tours. THey are REALLY sweet & helpful, you can e-mail them at:
[email protected]

Or check out:http://www.belize-ecotours.com

Let me know what else I can answer for ya sweetie!!!
