Do you find that people generally have a better time at a night wedding than an afternoon wedding? My ceremony is 11:30am, CH at 12pm, reception at 1:00pm. The price was so much better for the afternoon, but now I am starting to doubt myself. I picked Sunday b/c it is much cheaper and, besides the price, I figured people may not want to stay out until midnight on a Sunday, especially if they are driving on ice during the winter!
Has anyone been to an afternoon wedding lately? What was your experience?

Nope, but I plan on having 1 myself... Same times as you mentioned actually... Just because I wanted something more casual and felt an afternoon would do the trick

We are having an afternoon wedding. CH is at 130 and the recepton ends at 630 its on the water and in may so we figured why have anight time wedding when you cant really enjoy the view? so we went with daytime. Plus people wont be tired and wanna leave early lol
and also it leaves more babymaking time!!! lmaooooo

Re: Afternoon Weddings?
I had an afternoon wedding, and of course I am biased, but we wouldn't have done it any other way. We had our ceremony at 11 and out CH started at 1:30 and the Reception was from 2:30-6:30. We got married in October, so we have plenty of pictures of the sunset. Infact, by 6:30 when it ended it was totally dark out. I think it was a great idea for several reasons. 1. the light factor. I wanted my guests to see the water in the background of our RH 2. We didn't need to worry about people leaving early because they had to work early the next day 3. We didn't have to worry about or vendors running late because they had an afternoon wedding that ran late 4. We got married at a church and the latest we could have had our mass was 2, and the earliest we could have gotten our hall for an evening reception was 6:30 CH... What were my guests supposed to do for 3 hours. To be honest if afternoon weddings were more expensive we still would have had an afternoon wedding. From what we have heard, our guests had a blast.

Re: Afternoon Weddings?
We are having an afternoon wedding as well, not only because we could guarantee less people than we would have to at night, but also because our guests that have a long drive home won't have to driving in the dead of night.

Re: Afternoon Weddings?
IMO, Sunday afternoon is great - better than Sunday evening because of the work issue the next day. We usually leave by 11.

I've been to two sunday afternoon weddings, they were just as much fun as a Saturday evening. Honestly I never thought twice about the difference

Re: Afternoon Weddings?
I had a Saturday afternoon wedding & it was freaking great.
People had just as good a time. Hell, we had people break dancing & doing the worm across the floor. NO JOKE
It was perfect for people who had to travel too. We had a great after-party that evening. It worked out perfectly. Do not doubt yourself. It'll be awesome

Re: Afternoon Weddings?
I went to a sunday afternoon wedding last sept and it was wonderful. The sun set early since it was around fall so you got the ambiance of night without driving back in pitch black.
I think your choice was a great one, we're doing a sunday afternoon wedding too.

People will have just as much fun! I've been to several afternoon weddings and they were all as nice and as fun as the evening ones. Don't sweat it and just enjoy the day!

Yeah, I guess you are right b/c I like the idea that we can go out afterwards. I didn't think of that. And since it was cheaper, I managed to get the hall of my dreams (Flowerfields!! Woo hoo!).
Thanks everyone, this really has helped me feel better.

Re: Afternoon Weddings?
People loved our afternoon wedding and I would have done it all over the same exact way. We had more than half of our guests coming from OOT, so we wanted to have as much time as possible to spend with them, and having the wedding in the afternoon really allowed this to happen. Our mass was at 10:30 (and i'd say about 85% of our guests came to it), CH at 1pm, reception over at 6. At 6, everyone was invited back to the hotel where my parents rented out a room and brought in heroes, salads, and lots more to drink. Over 100 guests came and partied the night away! It was so wonderful to be able to really talk to and spend more time with everyone after.
I always thought I wanted a Saturday night wedding, but I was totally wrong. It was perfect for us!
All the best to you and your FH!

Re: Afternoon Weddings?
No worries!!! Afternoon weddings are easier to recover from - especially if it's on a Sunday - no Monday hangovers for the guests!

I've had a great time at all of the afternoon weddings I've been to!
The last one I went to was nice, we went back to the hotel and hung out for a few hours afterwards and caught up. It was nice to spend the whole day with the bride and groom and our friends!

Re: Afternoon Weddings?
I don't think the timing of the wedding matters as much as what you make of it. It will be a wonderful day because its' your wedding day and people will have a great time because of the love you share with your FH...
