We went to finalize our menu and cake plans with the RH today. We wanted a plain white fondant cake and I almost died when I heard the 'upgrade cost'. Did anyone else upgrade their cake, and how much more was it? I totally feel ripped off!

We have to pay to upgrade to fondont -- I think $1.50/2.00 per slice -- at over 300 people we will not be doing that!

It all depends on your RH and their cost pp. Fondant is definitely more money

Let's just put it this way, I wish it was only $2.00 per slice! I knew it would be more, but the price I got was almost enough to do another cake!

if you want a plain white fondant cake, you can have the RH do smooth buttercream and it looks pretty similar, especially from a distance, and tastes better.
fondant is better when you want a lot of detailwork that cant be accomplished with buttercream

This is the cake that I want. The only thing the RH needs to supply is the plain white cake and I am supplying the rest. When I heard the price for just the fondant I was like
You can definitely get the same effect using smooth icing!!

Re: I totally feel ripped off!
I didnt want fondant because I have yet to taste any GOOD fondant. Btw I heard alot of halls will take off the fondant when serving guests...because its hard to cut and tastes like crap.
Anyway we decided to upgrade our filling and design instead of doing fondant! It was $200 to upgrade and the cake was delicious and a hit with all the guests!

Re: I totally feel ripped off!
Unfortunately I'm kind of locked into fondant because the ribbons will get saturated with anything else. Everyone got way lower prices than I got from my RH.

Fondant is usually $1.00 - $1.50 more per person. We definitely upgraded our cake but received an amazing price becuase we know the person. Only cost $150 more ..should have been double that !

you can have them put a thin strip of waxed paper behind the ribbon so it wont soak through. ours was fine without it though
