it's not racist sweetheart, it's a valid concern, especially with hair! Lynda Lane is black, but she's only makeup. info on budget vendor webpage:

Re: AFRICAN-AMERICAN BRIDES

I am so glad you asked because I was wondering myself. Thanks to the budget wedding page (and thank you to the bride who posted it) I will check out Lynda Lane. However, I don't know what to do with the hair- I haven't permed mine in 7 years and am really thinking about perming it for the wedding b/c I want something different than braids and twists. I am trying to decide because I would like to shop for my headpiece/ veil and would like a true representation of how I will wear my hair. So anyway, this doesn't answer your question but just letting you know that I know what you mean...

For makeup I used Ayana -- she works at MAC at the Roosevelt Field Mall

For my hair I used Sheena -- she works for Maximus

Please FM me for phone#.

They both came to my hotel.

ETS: I don't think you're a racist. I had the same problem with hair and makeup. It was a long process but it worked out great w/ Ayana and Sheena.

Thats not being racist, I have the same problem with specific Asian topics, I will need to find someone to do my hair and makeup that can handle asian features, and there doesn't seem to be to many brides or vendors on this website in those areas.

Not racist at all, we all know that not everyone can do our hair and makeup. I really disliked some of my trials. My make-up artist was so fabulous, I can't rave about her enough. Her name is Marise, she can be reached at 718-789-8748. She works at Yves St. Laurent counter at Barneys.
I don't remember the name of the hair salon but the owner's name is Immacula and she did my hair. It is West Hempstead-that general area-the number is 718-486-1995
I was very happy.

Re: AFRICAN-AMERICAN BRIDES

I also have natural hair, but I am not thinking about perming it for the day of the wedding. I want a stylist to press it out and make it str8 for the day. I know it is going to cost me an arm and a leg, but i wll defintely looking into these vendors.

I pressed my hair for my wedding. It lasted all day and I had one of those horrible rainy May days.

Re: AFRICAN-AMERICAN BRIDES

I am glad that u posted this. I have a lady at my job that does makeup for everyone especially for their wedding. I've seen alot of before and after pics and they are very beautiful everyone says that she should open a side business but for right now she does it at request, she uses all MAC products as well as I do.
For my hair I do have a perm and my hairdresser has requested that I NOT cut my hair, so I have been growing it since FEB. I am a person who LOVES to cut, cut ,cut. She wanted more to work with for THE DAY. All my BM are going there and anyone I have sent or taken there, They abosultely LOVED their hair and they go on their own. Her name is Ayn.

Re: AFRICAN-AMERICAN BRIDES

Alixgirl, I live in Brooklyn, I don't know if that is a problem. She had her own place but the rent kept going up and she as been in business for like 15 years and she said she didn't want the resp. anymore. So now she has a smaller place and it goes by appt. it is on Flatbush ave. and Ave. D. I am a very picky person w/ my hair and she has been doing it since I was 14 and I am 25 now. And as long as she is doing hair that is where I will be. She is not the type that will do anything to ur hair, just because YOU want it. If she thinks it will NOT look right,or it will break your hair she won't do it. I like that about her, because it is nothing for her to take your money and have you out there looking like a fool. But she always says that she doesn't want them to say she did it. The pic in my avatar is at a wedding, she did my hair.

Re: AFRICAN-AMERICAN BRIDES

good question!! i have scheduled a trial session w/ Jillian from Gorgeous Faces on 2/16 and i will post before and after pics. i do not wear makeup on a regular basis, i prefer the natural look. i want to look as natural as possible w/ a little color on lips and eyes. it will be a quite interesting experience. if i do not like it i will go to the Mac store located on W 125 St in Harlem. they just opened a store there. i probably will still check them out any way. i will keep every one informed.
hair: my hair dresser will be doing my hair for the wedding sh i s located in the BX. i will get a touch up two weeks prior b/c my hair falls better then. she also presses your hair the old fashion way w/ the pressing comb if you like. she is located in the bx off of Allerton Ave & White Plains Rd.(just in case anyone was interested and looking).
