Pretty certain that the answer is no. Do you mean that it is a civil marriage or a marriage under a different faith?

i mean both bride and groom are catholic and have a ceremony performed at the reception location, will the catholic church recognize the marriage?
i say no, she says yes. i always thought that a catholic priest cannot marry a couple outside the church.

ok, the disagreement continues. if the church doesn't recognize the marriage, can you then have your child baptized or do you have to be married in the church first?

Yeah, who's marrying them? From what I know most priests won't marry outside the church. I've heard of exceptions but don't think there are supposed to be exceptions, if you know what I mean. If they are definitely not getting married by a priest then they are definitely not married in the eyes of the church. Only a priest or deacon can perform the sacrament of matrimony.

it depends on the church. many will require you and your DH to attend classes before they will baptize your child. not sure if you have to go through the whole ceremony.
my cousin called around to a few churches with regards to getting her daughter baptized (they were married at their hall) and she got varying responses from a flat-out no, to attend classes, to have to get re-married in a church.
good luck!!!

Don't know what the church officially feels but I can tell you that my FSIL had 2 sons baptized in the church and she wasn't married at all. I don't know though if not being married at all is viewed differently than being married but not in the Catholic church. That is a possibility.

This is my understanding. My FI and I are both Catholic and we are getting married at Oheka. We are using a Cathoic priest who has left priesthood to marry.
I think the only time they recognize it is if one of you is from another religion... like JEWISH when you ahve a Rabbi and a priest.
If I am wrong let me know, because I would lOVE To have a Roman Catholic Priest perform my ceremony.

This is what will happen with us. I want to raise our kids catholic because I am catholic. We are getting married at our hall. I know they will give us a hard time when it comes to having our children baptized.
And if the church gives me a hard time, well then maybe it is time for a new religion that is accepting of us.

I agree. That was why I asked if it was a civil ceremony or a ceremony under a different faith.

I completely respect your decision to get married at your hall. I'm curious/confused though. How do you feel that the church has wronged you? Is it because you don't understand why they require the sacraments to take place in the church. I don't have really strong feelings about this ether way so I'm not at all trying to start a disagreement. I'm just curious.

If they give me a hard time about letting me have my baby baptized in the Catholic church being we won't be getting married in the Catholic church.

Thanks! I just know when we do decide to have a baby, it will be loved regardless.
And I totally understand what you were saying. Sometimes when you read something it can be taken 2 ways when you read it. It sometimes is hard to express yourself through just typing.

I was thinking the exact same thing when I read your resonse! It's harder to 'read between the lines' when you are actually reading and not having an actual conversation out loud!!!
