You got the answer to your question already, but I'll add my experience.

Like 2UNTAMED, in planning my wedding, I spoke to a PLETHORA of Priests, Bishops, and Dioceses (Brooklyn and Long Island). They were all on the 'same page' insofar as what the rule is. Canon law states that if 2 Catholics marry outside of the church, their marriage will not be recognized by the church. Period. There is one exception to this: a marriage can be performed in a hospital and recognized, if, God forbid, one or both of the persons is critically ill.

My husband is Jewish and I'm Catholic. I received dispensation (in 2 forms - one to marry a non-Baptized Christian and the other to marry outside of the church) to marry at our hall. We had to attend Interfaith pre-cana and *I* had to promise to do everything in my power to raise our children Catholic. DH had to be present when I made this promise.

BTW, there are plenty of Catholic priests (many call themselves 'new' Catholics), who have left the church for one reason or another who will perform a marriage ceremony outside of the church. Again, it won't be 'recognized' as a Sacrament, but if having a Catholic officiant is important, then that's the way to go.

Ah, memories.

I don't think so.

Your marriage has nothing to do with your right to baptize a child however your marriage is not recognized unless it is performed inside of the Church.Beware of X-priests that say they can perform a ceremony and have it recognized too- they cannot.

Godparent rules vary from church to church. Molly's did not need to attend the class with us.

He also told us that the Catholic church does a pre-marital investigation and will most likely find out about other marriages- even those that happened in Vegas...

Really??? oh boy,, I have a cousin that did this and then lied to church that weren't married..Their wedding is april 17th..uh oh..that would be bad...

It is very hard to get it recognized. But we got it!! You have to get a dispensation by the church. Very few legitimate priests will do it.
