HAHAH
he's just trying to get publicity, like when Rudy started to doing crazy stuff like talking about kicking vendors off the sidewalks!

When I lived in Astoria, the Mr. Softee jingle was everywhere, & we never saw the trucks! Very eerie!

It drove my roommate batty- maybe she started this. . . .

I dont mind the moving Mr Softee but when it's parked out in front of your house for HOURS on end.. that song does get on your nervous and starts to split your ear drums.

Those high keys!!!

I REALLY REALLY hope they adopt this in Long Island (Nassau) cause Jim and I are fed up with those stupid alarms. We got one idiot who has both the sirens and the horn on his car. It's set on EXTRA sensitive. Everytime a truck (pick up truck) or a loud stereo passes it by it goes off. It's louder than the stereo and so the dumbasses in the car turn their tunes up louder too while their waiting for the light. Even in the dead of the night we're not safe. We're on a bus route and it sets off EVERYONE's cars!! I so very much want to toss a TV set or large heavy object at those cars!!!

ARGH!

But then you'll set of the impact sensor on the alarms.

I feel for ya, we have a car enthusiast that has this sweet Mustang Mach 1 on our block (such a great looking car) of course the exhaust is obnoxious... but he's usually respectful about over-revving and the like...but the moron on the other end of our block has his alarm on his 1994 minivan set so sensitive that even a thunderstorm will set if off. So naturally any aftermarket exhaust system that goes by is going to set if off.

I feel like telling the guy, look it's a minivan and it's old... there is no need for the alarm anymore and there never was a need for it to be that sensitive.

Re: Bloomberg going to far

i like my alarm
No blinky light
You could jump on my car and do the tango and it won't peep.
Open the doors or bust a window... different story.

I said I like, not love my alarm.

It's an OLD alarm. In 1996 I pulled it off my 89 Mustang that I had bought used and put it on my Mazda. I has it moments when the remote doesn't feel like playing. I've been left out in the rain standing around screaming out curses while shaking a remote. I've been stared at when I just give up and get IN the car.

I finally gave up and had the starter kill part disabled cause I could NEVER get the car to start if the alarm was on ...even WITH my key.

It's old enough and beat up (in my opinion) that no one really WANTs my car, but its just respectful not to be an annoying car.

My mustang was set sensitive (for you car buffs, 1989 was the 25th anniversary) and I got two citations by the San Antonio Police Dept. My bf at the time was also threatened with an eviction because my car would go off when I visited. It was set so sensitive that we'd joke about it with our friends.

Get out, set the alarm and grab a beer, time it. I usually bet 13-15 seconds before it went off. The actual act of cooling off set off this alarm! THAT IS INSANE! Finally got around to readjusting it.

Car alarms make me nuts, especially when they are sensitive and a storm will set them off.

Re: Bloomberg going to far

I would love for this to happen.

I am one of those people hyper sensitive to noise and I see no reason on earth for the ice cream truck to play that song loudly for a half hour at 9.30 at night up the street from me.

I don't know why I have to hear car radios a block away.

Why does your horn have to beep to confirm that you locked your car door? etc.

And who has lived someplace where the neighbor lets the dog outside to bark all night?

I know it's NYC and it is noisy, but if common courtesies need to be made into a law, things are getting to be too much.

if ya heard the stupid annoying jingle they play up by me, you'd be happy Bloomberg is doing this!!!

I swear it's so irritating. And at 11pm too. And as early as 9am. Ugh!!

Re: Bloomberg going to far

i agree in setting atime limit for noise (which i thought there already was one!). and it should be around 9pm. since kids go to bed early and i like to have peace and quiet as im trying to relax before bed.

and i do agree with car stereos! why do you need YOUR bass to shake MY CAR??? and i don't care to hear what music you are listening to! its so retarded!!! i hope those drivers lose their hearing at 25 so they can't listen to the radio anymore (maybe thats why they have to blast it in the first place). Oooo that gets me so mad!

HAHA...That used to be me. My civic's system was 900 watts...You could hear my car clear for over a block and a half. I used to make the windows shake in restaurants and stores when I drove by....

Why?

Why?

I'd love to know this answer as well.
I like good rich sound and clear music but I don't think it's 'cool' to have everyone else hear it.

How good can it sound when it's vibrating the trunk? I never understood this.

I also support the new noise regulation proposals - but if you read the NYT editorial page today, you'll see (I was wondering about this yesterday) that it actually *doesn't* include car alarms. At least for me, car alarms are much more intrusive than other forms of noise. I hear them *much* more than pets and Mr. Softee. My understanding is that they're also not very effective in terms of deterring theft.

You are right, they are not a deterrent at all!! I think car alarms should be illegal all together.

If someone can get into your car and start it without a key, I don't think the alarm is going to stop them. What ever happened to the club?

Re: Bloomberg going to far

This has to do with fairness. And for those of us city-dwellers who have to listen to people who have 'car parties' outside of their homes, dogs barking incessantly when their owners are away for the night, etc., we hope this is adopted.

He can't say one type of noise is bad and another is good, he has to find a limit and make everyone stick to it, including Mr. Softee.

If Mr. Softee is allowed to keep playing his music loud, so will my stupid neighbor.

Go Bloomberg-I'm with you on this one. Though I don't mind the Mr. Softee song, I support making things a little quieter (even if Mr. Softee needs to turn it down).
