$700 divided by 250 guests is only $2.80 per person ... it's actually not a lot compared to most other people who pay $3 - $5 per head ...

And it's not just the Maitre D that gets it - it's the bus boys & waitstaff & kitchen staff ... it gets split among a lot of people ....

Actually, it does not. If you want them to get tipped, you have to tip them yourself. My dad tipped all the waiters, kitchen help, chefs and the bartenders before the reception.

You could be right. Did your BM tell you that is how he splits the tip money?

My BM covered off who was included on the 18% gratuity and who was included on the Maitre D tip, etc ... I have it all written down at home - but I know I do not have to tip waitstaff/kitchen staff separately ... the only group that gets tipped separately is the bartender & the bridal attendant.

We did not have to tip the other staff members because they got tipped from the 18% service charge too but my dad thought that it would be nice to give them a little extra so that is why he tipped the staff extra.

Didn't someone post a link to a website that had tipping info? Anyone remember what that was?

Doesnt the matrede get paid for his time there. Does he actually do that much that he requires a $700 tip. I was thinking more like $100 and thats if he does a good job. Im paying gratuity for the hall so the hall should pay the wait staff and the maitrede. I dont even make $700 a week after taxes and Your giving him $700 for 5 hours! Thats crazy, I have to call my hall and find out what there suggested tip is.

Again - the $700 gets distributed among many many people ....

Wait a minute, what about if in your contract for the hall it says 15% gratuity, do we still need to tip the Maitre'D. Is this a really dumb question?

Not a dumb question but yes, you still need to tip the maitre d

Re: okay...tipping is getting way out of hand!!!!!

You should call your hall and ask:

#1 What does the 15% (or 18% or 19%) gratuity on the contract cover?
#2 What other tips are suggested?
i.e. Maitre D, Bridal Attendant, Bartender(s), etc...

They'll lay it out for you.

Re: okay...tipping is getting way out of hand!!!!!

i don't remember exactly at this point so all #s are approximate....

Flower Delivery Guy: There were 2, one for church & one for us at the hotel...they each got $25

DJ/MC $75 each

Photo $100

Video...I didn't tip, long story

Maitre'd $350 from us, an additional $200 from FIL (he did an amazing job, many things went wrong that I never knew & many disasters averted b/c of his skill)

Bridal Attendant $150, I think, it may have been $100, and I think my sis (MOH) gave her an additional $50 as well

Bartender $150 from us, another $100 from Bridal Party (they all chipped in for him, he was awesome)

Limo driver: mine nothing...again long story....The BP driver gave him $75 on top of his 20%

Musicians- $100...but they are independant contract so they got to keep all of their $$ that we paid them , plus we invited them to stay for dinner, dessert, & drinks even though they only paid for 1 hour

Hair & Make-up : $150 tip from all of us (4 people got done up) I think my mom slipped in another $50 here also

I also heard that my guests tipped the waitstaff at the tables b/c they never had to ask for anything. There was always a freshly opened bottle of wine on the table, fresh napkins, glasses, flatware, and drinks from the bar, etc... that made me pretty happy.

That was it. I did not tip my church or the organist, nor did I tip my ceremony musicians.

It was a bit over the top, but those who got tipped really went the extra mile for me. My wedding day was way longer than most & other than a few problem vendors everyone stayed until the end.

This is true. I worked at Leonards and the only tips I ever got were from the guests themselves!
