im definitly not having school....12- 18 inches is enough to get me off until at least wed...my district closes at one flake

At least you have a Feburary break. Once every 8 years we lose our Feb break. I don't think there will be a snow day but I left sub plans on my desk I will not risk driving in

i would love a snow day but I honestly dont think it is going to happen. if it stops tomorrow, theyll have enough time to clear the roads. I would want one though!!!

Unfortunately, I think you're right. The DOE worries more about parents making child care arrangements than whether or not teachers can get to school. Which is understandable, but I work with lots of people who live in CT, NJ, Westchester, etc., who really won't want to take the chance of driving. It's going to be chaotic and a waste of a day.

My students have some sort of superstition that says if you sleep with your pj's inside out, there'll be a snow day!
I always crack up thinking of all of them insisting that they wear their pj's inside out!
We should give it a try!

I live in Queens and Mayor Bloomberg said that schools will be open. At least in NYC. I don't know about LI. I'm not a teacher but DH is. It's dumb though, I mean all schools should be closed. Just because they get the roads cleared doesn't mean that it will be easy to get into work. How about those that have to get their cars out? Our entire driveway is burried in snow and there is no way that he will be able to get it out even by Monday. He is already planning on taking the trains into work on Monday which will take him an hour and a half and he'll have to leave the house at 4:00 a.m. Thanks alot Mayor Bloomberg.

I work in the Newburgh CSD....Orange County..... we have extra snow days to use cause we dont get presidents week off

regents start on monday... schools may try extra hard to stay open because of that!!

Last year NYCDOE closed schools the night before it was supposed to snow, and then there was nothing...so unless it is really horrendous and the roads are unpassable, I would be there will be school. But, there will probably be a lot of kids out, so classes will be small.

OMG that really sucks!! our vacations are definitely shorter this year but NO Feb break... I bet you're REALLY looking forward to April!! :)
