Anyone listen to 92.3 KRock?

They seem to have changed their format. They're no longer alternative, just pure rock. I like rock, but I listened to krock for alternative stuff, especially for some punk (yes, I have very eclectic taste). I'm so annoyed! I can't get 106.3 (a great alternative N.J station) here in Queens, and now 92.3 doesn't play alternative either!!!

I havent' noticed a change lately....but I only listen to them on the way to and from work....and in the morning it's Howard Stern....so there's no music at all...

I think it just changed yesterday. My friend told me about it and when I turned it on now, the music is somewhat different..it's somewhat more mainstream and classic rock. I have 95.5 for mainstream stuff, and 104.3 for classic rock. 92.3 is my alternative station!

You are correct - there has been a change! Here's what was in the trades this morning ...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
More Classics, Less Currents For New York’s ‘K-Rock’
On Feb. 28 Infinity/CEO Joel Hollander told Bear Stearns Conference attendees that Infinity “could potentially change the format” at Alternative WXRK (K-Rock)/New York due to ratings challenges following Howard Stern’s morning show. Rather than wait until the end of 2005, when Stern is set to move to Sirius, WXRK yesterday adopted a more classic-based mainstream Rock format following
Stern’s program. Among the artists now featured on K-Rock are Def Leppard, Pearl Jam, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin and Guns N’ Roses. However, with the launch of “K-Rock 2,” a web stream “dedicated to playing the latest music offerings from today’s new
artists,” fans of the station’s former Alternative
format can still listen to that music online. WXRK OM/PD Rob Cross tells R&R TODAY that no staffers have lost their jobs and that the airstaff is on vacation until April 11. MD Mike Peer is handling music duties for both WXRK and the online stream.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Howard Stern’s flagship positions itself for life after he leaves — playing “Great Rock.

Period.” Infinity’s WXRK, New York was pounding that liner when we checked it out after Stern’s show — and it’s clear the on-air playlist is broader (Tom Petty, Van Halen, and Led Zeppelin are in the mix). And probably
straight rock now as opposed to modern rock.

The reality is — K-Rock will need to depend far more on its music image when Stern defects to the great satellite in the sky. So they’re pursuing a double strategy —

#1, broadening the on-air playlist in both scope and years. (Not Jack, but with a big nod to variety.)

And #2, adding a much more radical “K-Rock 2” online stream that they hope will boost WXRK’s coolness quotient by
association. (The website says “K-Rock spawns evil twin with godless bloodlust for weird new music.”)

It’s a gutsy strategy — and we’d bet it plays well in a New York that hasn’t had a mainstream rocker lately.

Hmmm why do you think they changed??? I feel like they have been consistent with rock, alternative, and punk (yes I like it too!)

eta:

Oh no I hadnt noticed!!!! How will it be different from 104.3 then????????

I noticed it too! When I was driving home I was thinking to myself 'Why am I hearing Def Leppard when I should be hearing my boyfriend Booker?'

I did (of course!) but mine are more on the advertising front rather than broadcast now. (unfortunately)

I am seriously upset.

KRock was supposed to be the bleeding edge of new music, converting to a blander classic rock format will sink it. There will be nothing to distiguish it from the other frajillion classic rock stations!

Exactly! I don't see how it's going to be much different than 104.3, other than playing some 90s rock as well. There's no where to listen to alternative or modern rock!

YEP! I just talked to the broadcast people at my job and they assured me that a new alternative station would be something that may happen one day soon. But it will never be krock. I am SO DEPRESSED!
