'No one-single person should get more then $150.00. 10-15% of the total bill is adequate.'

Hmm... that would mean a 10% tip on $1500 bill or a 15% tip on a $1000 bill. Either one of those would be $150.00.... I gotta tell you, I don't think any of my vendors would fit into this category.

I thought that the tip recommendations all seemed kind of low.

i don't think they're low at all.

i think what's happening is that people get tip-happy and think they have to give 20% or some set amount that the company 'recommends'. of course they're going to recommend it--they get the $$$!

these prices are the most appropriate i've seen. i think many people on here way overtip--tips should not be expected, they need to be earned. we don't get tips at work for just doing our jobs. we get raises and bonuses and promotions when we go above and beyond--sort of like our 'tip'. just because the band does it's job does not mean they deserve another $500 in tips.

I gave my Maitre D $300 and he looked like he was going to faint. He was very happy and didn't stop thanking us for the rest of the night.

So, when the hall gives you their 'recommended' numbers, they are either inflating by A LOT or no one ever gives those amounts.

I don't think you can compare 'our' jobs to people in a service industry. Their salary is typically lower b/c it is assumed that the tips will make up the difference. In an industry that is dependent upon tips, I think that unless the service is horrible, people should tip the employees that the hall recommends tipping.

Great! I was wondering about all that! Thanks!

I as wondering about this myself since all the places I'm looking at INCLUDE gratuity. I mean, we'll be shelling out money just for it to be divided among everyone. I can see tipping the people who have done a great job a little something extra.. like $100 but shouldn't we assume the tips are already being taken care of with the gratuity charge?!

the people who are our main vendors are not making chump change. IMO, if i'm paying $5500 for photography i'm NOT going to tip him $1100 because he should automatically get 20%. that's ludicrous. i'll give him $50, maybe, if i love my results. a tip is voluntary, not mandatory.

When it comes to video and photography, you don't go by the 10-20% because the people there aren't producing the whole final product (usually). Especially photo. I'm giving mine 50 per person (I'll give my main photographer an envelope with $150, and asking him to share it with his assistant and other photographer).
