The restaurants did not file for bankruptcy and continue to operate, said the company's lawyer, Stuart I. Gordon of the Garden City law firm Shaw Licitra Esernio Schwartz & Pfluger.

According to the article, the real estate company that owns the land John Anthony's is on has gone Chapter 11, not the restaurant.

Re: John Anthonys - Bankrupt?????
There are 2 types of Bankruptcy, One type is a reorganization, and the corp does not go out of business. Debts just get paid off on a prorata basis, and the corp continues and will remain open.

Re: John Anthonys - Bankrupt?????
Copied form the Newsday article: Under Chapter 11, a business continues to operate while it develops a plan to repay creditors. 'Our business plan is to sell assets off to satisfy the debt,' Gordon said.

Re: John Anthonys - Bankrupt?????
Chapter 11 is reorganization. Chapter 7 is when they shut down completely.

No time to do a search now, but I think I remember a thread about this before. Something about the halls doing this every so often to get out of debt.

Re: John Anthonys - Bankrupt?????
if you were a vendor; a food disbributor, a liquor distributor, the company that cleans the linens...would YOU want to be doing business with a company that filed Chapter 11..the debts get paid first, in this case as per the Newsday article, the major mortgage debt (the Bank). I am calling them at lunch...

Re: John Anthonys - Bankrupt?????
I struggled with whether to post this or not, as I did not want to start any panic among brides, and I am afraid I may have done exactly what I tried not to.
Please, please, please do not panic - I am sure there is a reasonable explanation, and no one is at risk. Businesses file for Chapter 11 all the time, from what I understand.
