I don't think that you should make a decision now. I think we need to give them a month and see what happens. JA's is always booked and I think that if something happened and one of those company's went under, someone would come along and help support JA's...it has to be a profitable business.

We are waiting a month to see what happens.

My mom told me last night that her boss's reception hall burned down 2 weeks before her wedding and she was able to find a place for the same night!

I am pretty much at the same point as you are Cynthia. Just to add to your pity party. I am a south shore person etc. My wedding is also 11 months away and I am stuck!
What do we all do. My FH made a valid point but one that does not hold true that what is the point of a contract if they could just close shop on us. I mean if we did not hold our end of the bargain we would still be responsible!!!!!!!!!!!

I thougt angelo owned JA's. sorry! Anyway Since someone here said Harbor Club was not affected, maybe a switch to there would prove to be a good move since its the same owners. Other than location wouldn't everything else be the same if they had the date?

I cannot believe this. I just gave them a deposit last week. The few friends that I have spoken to said they would get their deposit back only because why should I have the extra headache about worrying if they will be around when it comes time to do the wedding. What if they don't have $$ for food? Will they skimp on food? Service? I am very upset. I know I shouldn't jump the gun but I am worried about this. If anyone hears anything new, please post it. Thanks... A worried bride..

I am waiting until next week to make a decision. In the meantime, I am going to see some other places. I might wait it out though, I love JA's and I honestly feel that they will remain open. They are still taking bookings and they have some much business, I feel that Coco's willl go under before they do.

I just spoke with someone at JA's. She said that we having nothing to worry about. She said this really has nothing to do with John Anthony's the company. When I asked about getting my deposit back she said that she would have to speak to her higher up about that if that's what I really wanted. She kept reassuring me that this really doesn't have anything to do with John Anthony's...it's about Port Dock Holdings Inc which owns stock and that they don't own John Anthony's. I'm so confused... but I will speak with the person I booked with next week since she wasn't in today.

Hello again,

I actually work for a law firm and decided to ask one of the attorneys on my floor for some advice. I had him read the Newsday article and after he finished reading it he said that it is 'ify'... he said if it were him that he would probably look for a new place. They are in bankruptcy mode and who knows what will happen between now and a year from now. He also said that maybe new management may take over which sort of means we don't know if it will be the same as it is now. If could be better or could be worse. I am confused and don't know what to do.

I really don't know. I would think within 6 months you should be fine but he did say anything can happen since they have filed Chapter 11. I know you must really be nervous since you put a lot more money down than I have. Honestly, if I were in your position, I would probably just stick with them only because where else are you going to find a place for an event that is 6 months away. Maybe we are all just blowing this out of proportion. I don't know. Have you spoken to JA's yet? I am sure they will tell you the same thing they told me...not to worry about anything but how could you not, right?
