I dont know it is hard to say if this is because of bad parenting skills or not. It is sad he is a baby just himself. I cant even imagine having a child now and he already has one at age 13.
This is my take on it: I grew up in a strict Catholic household. Went to Catholic School my whole life where we learned sex was for procreating and not to have abortions or use birth control etc. I dont agree with abortions but I am on birth control. When I was 16 my mom found my birth control and flipped she just told me I wasnt allowed to see my bf anymore etc etc. She never really talked to me about sex she only said I shouldnt have it unless i am married and took my bcp away from me. I went back to Planned Parenthood and got some more. However, I am 23 married and still no baby. Although my mom never taught me about it I still stayed educated about what I needed to do in order ot protect myself. Unfortunately there are alot of teens out there that don't receive that information. I wish my mom had talked to me about sex and relationships even though I did not have a baby 'out of wedlock'. I think when it happens to children so young it is because parents are either against sex/condoms/bcp all together or they don't feel the need to talk to their children it's sad. Plus I think we should have sex education in schools. you know the highest statistics of STD's is for the age range of 14-24 that is ridic...14 getting the clap or herpes etc....why arent people talking to their children about this it is obviously going on!??!?!!
Aside from the parents who are just uninvolved, I think maybe some parents just don't want to believe their children could even be thinking of such things, let alone doing them at such young ages.
yup exactly I think that was partly my mom's take on it as well...because I was 16 when I first had it with my bf and on birth control she was appauled that I would even think of it at that age.
You were still her baby....I'm sure the thought horrified her. It sounds like you had a really good head on your shoulders though, which she probably appreciated later on.

13? He looks 5. Either way this is not a good situation. How old is the mother, I didn't see it in the article?

Re: A dad at 13!?
my mom talked to me about sex a lot even at a young age - and oh how i hated it! it was soooooooooooooooo embarasing - i remember being like 11 or 12 and i wanted to die!! it was uncomfortable and embarrasing!
but anyway, even though we had talks i still kept things from her - but eventually when i was older i felt comfortable talking to her when i needed to - which was good.....i can talk to her about anything now - of course it helps that i'm married - but its good to have that kind of relationship....even before marriage and DH i was able to talk to her and go to her for advice and stuff....and although it wasn't always things she wanted to hear i know she was glad that i felt comfortable going to her.....
we hope my sister is the same - and we try to talk about it in front of her - she is 17 now - as far as we know she hasn't done it yet - and i hope that is true - i don't think she is ready at all....but anyway we want her to know that she can always come to one of us and talk about it and i try to tell her that talking to our mom isn't the worst thing and that our mom is pretty cool about stuff....so hopefully she comes to one of us if she ever needs too....

i think the parents play a big role in this.... the 13 year old boy obviously has the major role here... but i think this is where poor parenting enters the picture
couldn't agree more. i'm never afraid that this will happen to my own children, because I know that I'm going to raise them RIGHT. Jeez. This stuff makes me

this is what happens when people are anti-abortion....its freaky but there are lots of kids that age that have sex and some of these girls are bound to get pregnant....i don't know, it creeps me out....to each their own i guess....
I agree with you on how freakishly SCARY it is that kids are having sex so young, but I definitely don't think that anti-abortion should be blamed for this. Even though I think this is a horrible situation, I actually do believe that these kids were very wise not to murder this little girl. That is sooo wrong that people think of abortion as a 'solution'. Yuck. If they had smart parents though who wanted what was BEST for this baby AND their children in general, then they'd put her up for an adoption. Do you realize how many wonderful couples are out there, unable to have kids of their own? This child would have a chance to be raised by good people and actually grow up in a 'normal' environment. I assume that since they don't seem to be doing this, that the grandparents will be raising her.
And about what the dad said in the article - OF COURSE this boy seems nurturing to the baby!!! That's a ridiculous statement. It's like when a kid gets a new puppy. He LOVES it for the first month or so, but then you realize how much work it is and no longer want to feed it, take it for walks, and clean up it's poo. I feel like that's how this is. A baby is exciting to him, and I'm sure he really does love her. But there's no way he can raise her. He can't even take care of HIMSELF, obviously.

I agree that of course he is nurturing to the baby the way a kid is to a new puppy. We'll see if this lasts...there is NO WAY that either of them being so young can even conceive -no pun intended - of what it means to be a parent. Talk about bad parenting...how good can a kid who becomes a parent be? The parents definitely should have had them put the baby up for adoption-would have been the best solution in this situation.
As far as the anti-abortion thing...I think what was meant is that this IS what happens when people are anti-abortion....kids having babies. I know not everyone agrees on this but I personally don't believe that kids should have babies, period. 'Good' parenting, meaning that you know who your kids' friends are and where they are among other things, is the best foundation to prevent something like this....and so many parents these days don't make the time to do that...they have no idea where their kids are!! I guarantee that they were not in the living room with any family members when she got pregnant ...they were obviously unsupervised for a while when it happened.
