A moment of really weird and surpising enlightenment
Original post by PeteysBride
Ok so like many of you girls, my weights skyrocketed the last few months.
Surpisngly though....I amnot mad-more resigned...(amazing how therapeautic hurlign a scale out the window can be...)
Yes I'm a little pised that my metabolism is slowing down and I cant eat donuts everyday anymore lol. I havent been to the gym in like 3 months now? because of my neck injury but with PT I am getting better so hope to go back eventually.
I got lazy and started eating junk but Im one of those women who is very thin on her upper half and is bottom heavy. But I didnt look bad I thought-yea I had a pooch belly that I cant suck in anymore and my thighs are twin hamhocks but they always look like that.
But last night I tried to get on a pair of jeans I left at my mom's house from a year and a half ago and MY GOD! The suckers didn't go up ONE LEG! I was like HOW did I EVER fit into those??? They look like doll pants.
So initially I was really upset but then i thought about it and strangely enough thought about the book EAT PRAY LOVE that I am finishing and it made me reassess.
I'm feeling ok...I intend to start excercising again but God I think is intervening and keeping me sane because I am pretty accepting that this is just my 'woman' body and I am a grownup now and moving to new chapters of my life. LIke DH said, he met me when I was a girl (Iw as barely 22) and yes I was hot but he prefers ym body now because its the woman he married-strong and femminine. (YES he is getting some for that! )
I just wanted to share that because I struggled for YEARS with my weight-was anorexic and bulemic for a long time and always was on the thinner sie of my 'ideal' weight. So I thought I'd lose it now that I am about 15 pounds heavier than I have ever been before, but Im ok. I think once I start going to the gym I will feel more comfortable with the fact my body is just changing and I am coming into my own physically just as I am mentally and emotionally...
Read that book!
I will never be a size 2 again but a trim, in shape 6 is ok too.

Jenn that was a great post - I think almost everyone can relate. I have definitely been happier with my body, and thought last year when I got engaged that it would be a huge motivation for me to lose weight - but I think I stayed the same, and you know what? Obviously I wasn't that stressed about it because I didn't beat myself up or drop 30 lbs. There's always room for improvement, but the most important thing is just being happy with who you are.
BTW, that book is GREAT! When my mom first told me about it I was less than interested (maybe it was the way she described it) - but I couldn't put it down and was sad when I finished it (I get very attached to good books). I highly recommend it!!!!

Jen - i totally hear you on this.. i also struggled with major self image issues all through highschool...anoerexic, bulemia, whatever kept my size down...
I am now more confident then i've ever been. i dont know what happened, but i finally came to love my body & the person i'm becoming.... sure i have parts that i'd like to change(::coughcough:: ; the stretch marks that are suddenly appearing on my behind!), but for the most part, i finally like the way i am ..and dh says the same...he loves my curves, and he's actually said 'u were too skinny before...i love ur butt & now u have boobs' lol
having a 'woman' body is exactly it...i think even if i lost 15lbs i STILL wouldn't fit into a size 1. it's just the way it is...and honestly, i like it i get more compliments now then ever before...
so cheers to being beautiful women & having curves in all the right places
feel good about urself, because that's all that matters! like u said..u are a fit & trim 6...which is such an awesome size to be... know how beautiful u are, because u are fabulous DEFINETLY hot to trot in all ur recent shoots!

Congrats!
That is my favorite book and I have been in the 'Italy' portion since the wedding. I just enjoy every morsel of food, every moment of sex and every second of happiness with no regrets. I call it eating like a ten year old - I ate what I wanted whenever I wanted and it was heavenly!
I am still in 'Italy' haven't quite made the transition to Yoga BUT I have slowed down with the eating. I am TRYING not to like my new body, but I have to say I kind of like it. I feel soft and feminine and loved!
I am holding on to the 'Italy' aspect though. I am going through a rough time right now and just had my first post wedding anxiety attack and you know what? I am NOT going to let ANYTHING destroy my happiness . . .
So I am plump and happy and just. . . blessed.
Sorry to highjack but that wanted to share my experience after reading that book!
Hijjack away Tilde! Thats what I wanted from this thread...for everyone to sorta chime in whether they are at this point yet or not.
I don't know why the book struck such a chord with me other than i feel her writing style-that sorta sracastic, humpous spin she puts on things even when she was at her saddest, is how i write (as y'all know from my wackadoo stories )and my internal dialogue so i could really relate. It reminded me of my mantra: laugh or cry. And you can cry WHILE you laugh.
So I am doing the Italy thing too right now-Jst eating what i like, not overdoing it but indulging when i want to and not rushing everywhere.
What i took from the book so far is learning to pick yourself up and just BREATHE and take life one day at a time. HARD for me because I am a chronic worrier but I've been trying to say 'Just let it go. Its just another day. You'll get it done in your own good time' everyday, whenever I start getting stressed and its working so far.
Today I plan to go for a run becaus Im motivated-something I havent wnated to do in months.
And I think you SHOULD like your new body! You're comofrtabel in your own skin which is the key to happiness. Soft and feminine-thats what women SHOULD BE. Yes we can be strong and fit but I personally LOVE being a woman; I love pretty clothes and having my hair done and feelign good about myself-not for anyone else but for me I like that.
I found too that Im heavier and in undies Im like OOO LOTS to love there! BUT....in clothing I LOVE the way i look more now than I did thinner. I have alot more curve going on-much more of an hourglass shape and yesterday in a dress I wore I felt so powerful and sexy because I thought 'this is what I SHOULD look like-not trying to be a little boy but embracing the curves.'
Im not syaing I won't have lousy days. They'll coem a knocking but just learning to iNHAle and EXHALE is really making such a difference and so quickly. Even DH noticed.
ETA: I am going to eat at your house if you keep doing Italy

I think it is so amazing that you are so comfortable with your body and where you are. This has always been a struggle for me. I have definitely gained some weight in the last year and with that some flab. Some of my clothes feel tight and that has been absolutely devastating for me. I am trying to work through it and it has been a struggle. I have started doing yoga and that has helped me to feel better about working out, but still not feeling great.
Long story short.... I find posts like yours inspirational so thanks!
Thanks Bonnie-TooK AWHILE! Like literalyl this is new for me. I used to gain a pound then diet like crazy but now after reading that first portion I just took what applied to em from it and did a reassment and though I like to be fit, it doesn't really matter if that makes sense? As long as Im healthy and Im happy I can handle not looking like a supermodel. I have a good husband, family and friends and my health. So i go up a dress size. I'd rather do that than be skinyn and have the hardships in my life I did 5-10 years ago.
I'm HAPPY now and if eating the occasional donut gets me there I am all for a cream fullled Krispy Kreme, the caviar of donouts!
You'll get there-just try not to beat up on yourself and as Polyanna as it sounds, focus on the good things in your life. One of my new mantras is 'It could be worse.' and it always could so just keep puttering through!

Im so glad you posted this because I am still struggling accepting the fact that as hard as I try to loose weight I dont think I can accept my body for whatever reason the way it is ... No i can NEVER be a size 2 its just not the way my body was built.... My DH is VERY supportive- to a point where I dont think I could EVER handle myself if the roles were reversed!! HAHA
I am going to pick up the book tomorrow... hopefully this will lift my spirits somehow.... I have gained 7 lbs since the wedding and it really has put me down for quite some time so I hope this will help me!!!
Thank you!!!
PS You absolutely look beautiful the way you are now!
Thank you! i really reccomend the book. Its not a typical self help or weight loss book. Nothing liek that. just a memoir of an average woman who hit rock bottom and learned to get through it and find happiness-not perfection but an inner serenity. thats what i want for myself because perfect is unachievable but I think I can do happy.
Let me know how you like it!

Totally agree! I know I borrowed it from a friend but I think i want to own it to revist with it from time to time.
You know what book you might like? Kiss My Tiara.
Its not as spiritual as this but its written in the same humorous tone. I love it. I give copies to all my friends. Its a book about different things but bascially just being a modern woman and learning to be strong and funny and confident. Its a 'self help' book but even the author says its not so much about helping as learning to be happy. Even if you dont share her political views you can take something from it.
