about all the posts...

Re: about all the posts...

I guess it depends on the situation. There are girls who only post on certain boards and sometimes the more responses the better.

I also find when I need info on a vendor that this board be the best board for that info because on this board you ladies have used those vendors and can give more of a feedback then someone who has them booked.

For myself I find it better to talk to someone who has already done something then someone who has it booked and hasnt utilized that service yet and with a situation like that its just best to go straight to the source.

Re: about all the posts...

It doesnt bother me but that may be because I dont post on the BHB side.

I think we as newlyweds are less chatty in general so thats why there is a higher % of bride posts. If we posted more, there would be a smaller %. Thats not really the brides fault.

When I was a bride I NEVER came to this side b/c I think the NWs at the time were not quite as accomadating as we are now...which is a shame b/c we can all help a lot.

The one thing that really does annoy me is when someone posts a question like 'name your photographer' or some general thing like that b/c as someone said before, its so easy to do a SEARCH!

It doesn't bother me one way or the other, but I'll side with majority rule.

Re: about all the posts...

I think Lisa's point is valid. When I first started using LIW, I NEVER posted over here. I peeked, but I never posted becuase it clearly says up there 'For Newlyweds Only.' But, the newlyweds are a great resource for the brides and now that LIW has grown so much and there has been a lot of talk about the drama on the BHB side, a lot of newlyweds do not / will not visit or post on the BHB board.

I still am not a frequent thread started over here, but when I want newlywed advice, what is a bride to do???

Re: about all the posts...

LisaT, I totally agree. I was away for a few days and when I got back I felt that the Newlywed board was taken over. I'm sorry, but I am married for almost a year and I'm really done with the Bride questions. I think that if a Bride needs help, do a search and then if need be, FM the newlywed. An occasional question here and there is fine with me, but not when it's the majority. That's why I just don't post much anymore, who has time with all the repetitive questions. There is a reason why we don't go on the BHB - we are moving into the next phase of our lives.

I didn't come on the Newlywed board until I was married, but I'm not saying that the brides are not welcomed ... they are, just be courteous, if it's a question that can be easily answered by search, do that first. If you need to seek 'relief' (as 070502 stated) then post here.

I hope I didn't offend anyone, I'm not one to start a fight, but this really bothers me ... just wait until you've been married for awhile, you'd hate all the bride questions too.

And wanted to add ... that even though it's a wedding website, I've been fortunate enough to build many relationships on here and don't want to find another 'board' to chat about newlywed stuff.

Re: about all the posts...

About the NWR board. I would love to post on there about house stuff or crafts but there are too many posts on there where people are just saying hi to someone or informing someone that they have FM. I'm sure that most people check their FM's at least once a day. What happens then is the posts about other things get mixed up with the other posts.

I for one will make an effert to post more on the Newlywed board, on topics that would interest us new home owners or crafters!!

Re: about all the posts...

ok - when I was a bride I was even afraid to read the Newlywed board much alone post on it.

I thought LIW would ban me ffrom the site b/c I was reading For Newlyweds Only and wasn't one yet!!!!!

Re: about all the posts...

I am one of the guilty brides
I post most of my questions on BHB or May, but I do pop over here occassionally when I have a specific question I want answered mainly by Newlyweds.
But I could definitely see a trend starting also w/more an more brides posting over here, and see exactly what you mean.

Point well taken, and no offense taken

In 3 more weeks, I'll be an officially Newlywed

Re: about all the posts...

I also think we have been inundated with lots of bride questions.

I don't post on 04, 03, or May b/c I feel that is a place for those girls to talk amongst each other and this is ours.

Sorry you didn't understand. My point was that sometimes you need to seek 'relief' or help by going aganist a sign. A sign being a ' Mens Room' and you being a female. Also you mentioned the other boards for help, I have posted a few times on parenting even though I am not a parent and had a miscarriage, and they were able to understand and let me in their executive club. I really think you took my opionion the wrong way, and I'm sorry you found it so funny.

I didn't say it was the best analogy, but it worked for Lisa and that was who I was addressing it to.

Hope you can follow now

070502: I take your response to be on the rather on the serious side, when you post on the board you address all of us. Yes I did take it lightly, b/c that is the only way I take things on the board, life is too short to take it any other way.

I would not tell anyone to not seek us out and ask us questions but to post the redundant questions those are the ones I have a problem with. Hey this is my side and I have a right to state my opinion, don't I. I don't think you have to be pregnant to post on the parenting board, you cannot make a connection between the 2.

And yes I follow now

Re: just noticed

I am bumping this b/c I have another question: Can brides answer newlyweds on domestic issues? I.e. not related to the wedding, or if posted by someone else?

Sonicstef Posted:

Re: just noticed

Alina: Im not really a big fan of making a lot of rules when it comes to this stuff. So I think Brides can and do respond on this board about non wedding related stuff.

The only thing I dont like is when a bride to be answers a question like 'i havent done it yet but I think it will be like...' which seems inappropriate to me.

In the end, I think the general guiding principle should be a goal to help each other without hurting. So if a bride can be helpful then I personally dont object.

Re: just noticed

I welcome all helpful posts/responses - from anyone! I certainly didn't want brides to feel unwelcome here. I just don't think there's a need to re-post the same questions here that are on BHB.

Re: about all the posts...

All are welcome here on the Newlywed Board!!! That means brides, newlyweds, singles, divorcees. Although I might have to draw the line with men!!! .

I think we'd prefer it if you limit the wedding planning questions. Personally, I liked the threads about how life changes after marriage, things we love about our husbands, general post-wedding questions, etc. Those posts are fun. Also, if there is a specific question about a specific vendor, go for it. I think the problem is with the generic wedding planning questions.

Like my post earlier, I think a Newlyweds Helping Brides tab would be great. I am sure that many newlyweds really want to help, when they can; but then there are old ladies like myself (married almost 2 years) who really can't help you anymore because it's been so long.

Re: about all the posts...

I have to add one more thing.

If a posters is addressing one person, they should really stick to FM or email. Those posts annoy the hell out of me.

Re: about all the posts...

yep, this is similiar to what I brought up a few wks ago too - I definitely notice an increase in brides' questions lately.

To echo everyone else's statements, I don't mind helping others at all, but I think the usual wedding questions should be posted under BHB. I only posted under the NW board before I got married to ask a very unique question or something unrelated entirely to weddings.

If all the questions come over here, then the NW board is no different from BHB.

Re: just noticed

I'll be honest.. I agree that alot of the threads that have been posted should not be here....I come to the newlywed board to read mostly and it gives me some insight on what to expect once I get married.. i don't like coming here to read about things that should be on BHB..

they should be posted on BHB and if no one answers b/c no one sees the thread, simply bump the thread.. also, perhaps LIWEDDINGS can MOVE the posts that are being posted on Newlyweds Only over to the BHB board?

Re: just noticed

LIW - How about a Newlyweds Helping Brides board then? That way For Newlyweds Only will be exactly what the title dictates...

This way if Newlyweds want to help out future brides they have that option.
Teri Posted:

Re: just noticed

IMO, I'm not sure if another board is the best option. Soon they won't all fit on the screen! LOL

What I usually do if I have time when I post, I head over to BHB and add my 2 cents when I can. I see other newlyweds doing the same, so maybe we should just stick with that?

LOL, Teri! Too true. JMO, of course!
