Adding to 'sense' of community

Original post by Sonicstef

Lately, Ive been seeing a running theme in the tone of our 'complaint' threads. A lot of it seems to have to do with sense of community we feel on these boards.

I know it used to be very strong. The membership was smaller and we all 'knew' each other. With the membership expanding, I think it gets really difficult to keep track of everyone. And as a result, I personally feel like we may be losing something really great.

In any case, I was hoping we could brainstorm ways to get that warm and fuzzy feeling back - at least on the NW board if no where else.

I think GTGs are one way. We had a really sucessful one last month and hopefully we will have another one by the end of summer.

Anyone else have some positive suggestions on how we can do this?

(Or if Im way off base and Im the only one feeling this...tell me Im crazy and to shut up
)

Jenn:

I hope (I think) I congratulated you. If I didn't, I'm sorry

Like Jenny said, it's hard to keep on top of things. Especially lately, I've been so random on the boards. But I like the GTG's and the sense of 'community'. I feel like I'm cultivating a whole new group of friends outside of my pre-existing ones.

Re: Adding to 'sense' of community

Ladies, let me stress my point, maybe I wasn't clear.

I do not lose sleep over it, nor does it 'bother' me, however, you wonder why is all.
I will also say I am not the only one who thinks this, trust me, but I am the one to speak.

We are on the topic of a 'sense' of community so I am posting what I feel.

I did not get a Congrats on my wedding review and or pics from some who I know had to see them!
I got over 8000 views on my pics! Yes I know alot are from vendors, and people showing their sister, FH's etc my photos of those using Patken.
I know all this through my FM's and talking to vendors.
Some who i 'know' for a long time on here never once congratulated me. So I wonder why. that's it!

Jenny I wish you all the best!

Shamma

Jen ,
Sorry that you feel that way. I am not sure if I did say congrats or I did not. (its been a rough month) I dont know where you posted this, but If you posted on the BHB then chances are that I did not see it because its a RARE occasion that I go over there. Im not even here on NW that often. I wouldnt take offence to it. I dont think anyone would intentionally not wish you congrats..

And I am sorry if I missed the opportunity to say congratulations.. so i will say it now.. CONGRATULATIONS!!

Re: Adding to 'sense' of community

None of my girls posted on it except for Jen, and Stef and Marni and both Taras and Fran and a couple of other regulars. Now on my pix thread, everyone responded

PS Lisa there was none from you or Michele31 or Shamee, you ladies don't love me j/k looking back on it, I don't think I posted on review threads i post on photo threads.

BRB, going to check my photo thread

My review thread had 2 pages, my photo thread had 4 pages I think people like photos much better.

Marni, thank you for the open invite!!! I would love to attend but I'll be in Elvis country that weekend

I don't know how to restore that cozy feeling we all used to have. I think since the community is so large now (which is a good thing!) it's more and more difficult to keep up with everyone here.

I love Michele's getting to know you thread that started up.

Re: Adding to 'sense' of community

Jen: Do you think that there are people on this board (i mean the NW board) that dont wish you the best? Even if I didnt post a 'congrats' on that thread, doesnt mean that I dont wish all the best. And that goes for all the newlyweds here. I just like to focus on threads where there is a discussion rather than a list of the same response 100x.

Im sure there were people who posted congrats to me that could care less...as well as people were geniunely happy. Its not about the posts in my humble opinion.

I know all wish me good but please listen to me all, there are a few of us who felt this way.

Re: Adding to 'sense' of community

You know Im in for a Bklyn GTG.

Although you definitely do not want to hear me sing, I will definitely listen to anyone who has the balls to get up there.

I know Tammy...that is when I was in the midst of my planning frenzy. I have oodles of time now!

Oh, and I don't sing. I may work in music but I'm better at picking the talent then BEING the talent.
