Fruitarian - A fruitarian is a raw foodist who only eats fruit, greens, and some nuts and seeds.
i know this is a serious idea---but i hear or see the word 'Fruitarian' and i think of the movie 'Notting Hill' when they try and set up hugh grant on blind dates....and one girl is a fruitarian and this is their conversation:
William: And, ahm: what exactly is a fruitarian?
Keziah: We believe that fruits and vegetables have feeling so we think cooking is cruel. We only eat things that have actually fallen off a tree or bush - that are, in fact, dead already.
William: Right. Right. Interesting stuff. So, these carrots...
Keziah: Have been murdered, yes.
William: Murdered? Poor carrots. How beastly!

Re: Any Vegetarians??
I am a vegetarian, but I guess you can call me a weird one. I have been one for over 8 years now. I really only eat eggs, pasta, cheese and bread. Once in a while potatoes, veggies, etc. I heard a story in HS and I swore that I would never eat meat again. I never really ate red meat, but I did eat chicken. In the beginning it was hard not to eat chicken, but everytime I am considering it, I just think about how they kill the, and I can't do it.

Re: Any Vegetarians??
I was a vegetarian in HS. Then one day, my mom made Corned Beef and I caved....after years.
I just recently stopped eating meat again about 2 months ago. I have been having stomach problems for about 2 years. I was back and forth to the dr. so many times. Nothing they suggested helped. Neither did medication. Then for some reason I didn't eat any meat one week and stomach issues went away.
So now I don't eat any poultry or beef or veal etc. I do eat seafood, dairy and eggs.
The only hard part is that DH LOVES meat. He is a beef eater. He won't eat veges. So it's hard. The only food we have in common is pasta with marinara.... lol.

Re: Any Vegetarians??
I was a vegetarian for about 5 years and even now red meat is rare. I eat it on occassion because around my period my iron count drops and then I need the extra iron and its easier to eat a burger than take a supplement because I am forgetful with vitamins.
I eat alot of fish some and some chicken but since I like veggies and pasta I can steer clear of meat for long periods at a time and be fine. DH though is a real carnivore.
What I DO suggest Marie, is talk to a nutritionist. Insurance should cover it and it really helps because what alot of people forget is you still need to get certain nutrients and proteins daily and alot of those are found in meat and poultry. So if you are weaning off of those, you have to make sure you're still healthy.
Thats one reason doctors do not reccomend that small children have vegan diets, because they're growing and need even more of those nutrients and its REALLY hard to geta kid to take all the vitamin supplemts they would need.

I don't eat eggs or drink milk on their own- but if they are in something I will eat it (Ice cream, things baked with eggs) I was never big on milk, and although I loved scrambled eggs as a kid- I decided to give it up... I was ok with that loss- I think giving up tuna as a kid was the toughest for me! haha I don't know why I liked it so much, but I did. But when I decided to become a veggie I figured it was all or nothing for me. Not that I have anything against people that eat only some meat- or eat a ton of meat..like dh! He has meat with every meal- I just dont cook it, but dont mind if he cooks it in the house and eats it in front of me.

I am Marie! I became one a few years ago when I started learning about factory farms and all the horrible stuff they do to animals. I also read Skinny B!itch...not pretty but it really tells it like it is. I won't lie and say it's been a piece of cake. There are definitely times where I miss a having meat (especially when DH is eating it right in front of me) but usually it's no big deal. Let me know if you decide to do it!

I'm DEF gonna go for it!! No red meat starting today and I set a goal of 3 weeks to eliminate chicken (thats all I eat so I'm gonna start cutting down now)......I will continue to eat dairy & eggs!
