Re: Anyone else feel weird about the name change thing?

I was excited to go from Ms. P to Mrs. P......and because I am a teacher, I hear my last name quite a bit.
But it is strange. My last name was very unique and uncommon, and his is fairly common, so I miss the attention I used to get from my last name. Although, it is nice to have people know how to spell my last name when I say it......
It's an adjustment, definitely, but I wanted to do it because our children will have his last name and I wanted to share that with him.
It was sad though, because my last name is so uncommon that we are the only family on Long Island (perhaps even in NY) that has the name, so I was sad to cut the number of people using the name down by 1....

Also, my students have picked up on the fact that my old and new last names both start with 'p'....so now some of them call me Mrs. PP as a joke....haha very funny!

Re: Anyone else feel weird about the name change thing?

I did at first but now that it's changed at work (I changed it for everything) I'm getting used to it. I don't know I kinda don't mind it because my last name is unusual and while no one really says anything about it now, I was teased big time when I was younger.

I also felt it would be hard to keep my own name for one thing and his name for other things - too confusing for people and I would get irritated when people called me Mrs. C. when I wanted them to know me as Ms. L.

ETA: You should do whatever makes you feel the most comfortable. I changed it becaue it made me feel good to do it.

Re: Anyone else feel weird about the name change thing?

i thought i would love taking his name, but so far i'm not really liking it. I don't know why... maybe cuz i despise his father so i really don't want to share a name with him. I don't know... i almost want to change back to my maiden. I won't hyphenate, its too many letters. Dh doesn't care either way.
But I would like to have the same name when we have kids, so i guess i have to suck it up and get used to it. Just think of it as DH's name, and not his fathers. But i do refuse to be called Mrs. R. I'm making it Ms. R. Mrs. is his mom!!!!
