Anyone stiff you with gifts??!

Anyone stiff you with gifts??!

We got married three weeks ago, and are still outstanding about 30 gifts - it's so awkward. i know ppl. have a year to give a gift, but do you think they need a friendly reminder? is there a polite way to handle this situation? thank you!

saddly, there really isn't anything you can say.

Aside from the '1 year rule', guests are not ever obligated to even give a gift.

I know it stinks (believe me- I know. One of my DH's aunts is still 'waving' a gift in front of our noses and we got married May 30, 2004

We're not expecting anything from her. And, there's really nothing we can say to her about it.

you got stiffed, there isn't anything you can say really unless you want to be the tacky one. we got stiffed by a number of folks too, i think i just happens--maybe the next year will bring a few surprises but I doubt it.

Yes!!!

My brother and the Best Man My brother has issues with how I've moved on with my life and he's 31 and still going to Nassau CC... he should have his PhD by now so I think he was very jealous of my wedding. The BM has 'issues' and never works steadily etc. Oh, and we picked up the tab for his tux!

The best was my cousin who's check bounced DH, nor myself, have ever bounced a check. When we came home from our honeymoon and saw the fee on our account we were Found out it was from my cousin Dan (at this point I will name names and give you his address and phone number). I called him, his wife answered and I said 'Wow, this is so embarrassing but...' She never even said sorry or was she embarrassed in the least bit. She asked for my phone number... hello, you should have it... so Dan could call me back. He called twice but never left a message. I called two weeks later, he claims he is balancing 5 checkbooks... WHATEVER.. and then HE LIED TO ME saying he just sent out another check 'the other day'. Hmmmmmm... waiting, waiting.

I would have rather he not given a gift. I'm mad because 1. I incurred a fee and 2. he fr!@#$ng lied to me on top of it.

Sorry for the vent but my cousin really added insult to injury on that one.

That's a lot of gifts to be missing. Have you checked your registry for any missing items?

Wow, that is A LOT of gifts to be missing. Is it possible, and I hate to even suggest this, that anyone stole them? Did you have a card holder, or did you have someone watching the cards? My aunt's COUSIN stold wedding gifts at her wedding(like 20 yrs ago, but still!), and they found out when cash fell from under her dress Anyway, for that reason alone, my mom made me give everything to my grandfather to guard at my wedding. I don't know, it's just a theory. But then again, we did get a lot of gifts in the mail when we returned from our honeymoon.

I almost got stiffed, it happens unfortunately, but I never said anything about it. It is an awkward situation. I just didn't talk to the person for six months . She was an old friend that I hardly ever saw, but we use to be bf many years ago and had issues. I just hoped that she would realize why I never called her to get together, like I said I would at the bachelorete party. She finally realized it. I had to get the message through and I was really hurt, since we use to be best friends when we were kids.

Also, Dh's Aunt and Uncle had the nerve to call a few days before and ask if her son and girlfriend could come to the wedding. B/c they needed a ride. I don’t know why they couldn’t just drop them off and pick them up??? So, they gave us one card for the 4 of them and $175.00. So, basically their son stiffed us in way. Rudeness! Good luck, you never know you might get them eventually.

So far two...one says its in the mail though we will see. We had about 130 guests, so two isn't so bad.....I'm sorry you are missing so many

Re: Anyone stiff you with gifts??!

We got stiffed by 7 (5 friends, 2 family) - yes count them 7 people. And we had one person bounce a check and never gave us anything to make up for it. And these people all do pretty well for themselves. It boggles my mind how you can go to a wedding and not even give a couple a card to congratulate them. I was pretty disgusted with those people and i can say a majority of them we are no long friends with anymore or don't see much of if they are family.

Then again we had a lot of family and friends who could not make our wedding who gave us such amazing and thoughful gifts.

It happens, but i would not say anything to those people. They know very well what they did. Three 'friends' have kept mentioning oh i have to send you your gift (to which i roll my eyes to now), so we know they did and the two family members are flakey to start off with. And from what we heard the other two friends have gone to others wedding and did the same thing so we did not have a case of someone taking these cards.

We got stiffed by several(4 couples, and two singles)- all family inclding both of DH sisters! One of them is supposedly on its way but the others who knows! The worst part is what to do about the thank yous. Do you just say thank you for coming and eating our food, drinking all those drinks, and enjoying the band?

Hey yeah- luckily we had a donation favor so they didn't benefit!

I'm bad, I didn't send a thank you until I got the gift. Then a week after I got it, I sent it out.

Yes- a few people did. And some that gave gifts were just insulting. 30.00 for a hole family? There isnt much you can do about it. YOu might still get some in the mail.

Oh, I am either not sending a thank you to my cousin who stiffed me and then LIED about it or I am writing something to the effect of..

We hope you enjoyed the day and OUR gift to you of a lovely party with great food and entertainment. We take it you went home entertained, a bit buzzed and full from all of the food.

Don't think I won't do it. I haven't liked them for a while now but they never really did anything specific to p!@# me off now they have.

Re: Anyone stiff you with gifts??!

We got 'stiffed' by 5 invitees (total of 7 people). I mean, really, there wasn't a single solitary person at my wedding that could not afford a 99cent card for God's sake! One of them was one of my BM's!! She's a cousin too. Another was her brother and his wife, when I had just been to their wedding 2 years ago and given them a pretty nice gift considering my age and the fact that I had to get a hotel in DC for 2 days at a time when I had zero dollars to my name. Another was a 'friend' from college, who requested that I invite his like 20 year old girlfriend . The other two were on DH's side - one was a cousin who never sent the rsvp back. When contacted he said 'can he let us know in a few days?' and 5 days before the wedding, called to say he was gracing us with his presence. Apparenlty not his presents though And the last one was DH's 1st cousin who got married in FL 7 weeks after us. For a while, we got nothing from her, her mom (DH's aunt) or her brother. Then, after her wedding, her mom sends us a card and a check for $150 to cover all three of them! Meanwhile, we gave her $250 just by ourselves and I'm sure FIL and SMIL gave an enormous gift too!!

It just pis$es me off

Thanks for the thread, it was good to get that out

Re: Anyone stiff you with gifts??!

Yep. One my own cousin......very nice. The other a friend. Now, this was her first wedding, but at age 24, I think you are still aware of how these things work.

Another two couples had to cancel a few days before the wedding due to unfortunate circumstances. Now if it was me.....and I had orignially planned to go and RSVPed yes, I would still send a gift. And these people are rather well-off! One set was also relatives.

we had just one....but he was a groomsman!! with his girlfriend!! and his parents were there, and they gave a nice gift.....so who can ever know why this happens?? alot of DH's family were kind of in the cheap side..but the generous ones made up for it

Ditto for me too. I sent a thank you as i got the gifts. We actually had a bunch of people send us gifts well after the wedding. Two friends sent us gifts around 3-4 months afterwords, one of DH co-workers sent us a gift in March and another one in April and we just got another gift last week (but that was a person who could not come and sent it home with DH mom when they visted them).

So for all those girls who are newly married you might still get something.
