appetizers/dinner ideas

Were having a bunch of friends over on sat night. What do I make? Am I better off just making lots of appetizers (cheeses, wine, sausage, artichokee and spinach dip, cheese pies, etc finger foods) or attempting a dinner? OR make. A bunch of appetizers then ordering food in?

I had joanna over on sunday and we were very content with cheese, wine, chips, WINE, WINE, dry sausage, and then homamade pizza for dinner but idk if guys would go for that as welll. Help!

Re: appetizers/dinner ideas

i'm personally a huge fan of lots of apps (like the ones you mentioned) and maybe one larger dish, like a pasta....then later if the menfolk get hungry again they can order something in

Re: appetizers/dinner ideas

I think it depends on the crowd your hosting for. I know one group of my friends are the cheese, crackers, sausage, shrimp ring and fruit type. And another group are more into finger foods and actual appetizers.

Re: appetizers/dinner ideas

I always love doing a big cocktail party - LOTS of apps

Baked brie
cheese and crackers
Chili dip
Spinach artichoke dip
Potato puffs
Pigs in a blanket
Mini quiches
Stromboli
Ham and swiss roll

etc.

The other thing we do a lot which is SUPER easy is Taco night. You prep all of the foods and then everyone makes their own tacos.

Re: appetizers/dinner ideas

I would do a bunch of cold and hot appetizers. If people get overly hungry, order a pizza or something. They are coming over, but are they expecting to come for dinner??? I think you are better off with just a bunch of appetizers...

Re: appetizers/dinner ideas

I always do the bunch of apps for things like this. Cheese and crackers plate, veggies and hummus plate, and mini/tasting dishes - like nice raviolis in a fancy sauce and a toothpick in each one, mini quiche, fancy pizza cut up into bit size portions, mini paninis (grilled chicken, fresh mozz, balsamic, tomato).

Re: appetizers/dinner ideas

i looooove apps! yum, yum, yum!!
if you wanted to do a dinner party, you can do a soup and leave it on the stove, a salad (pre made and leave in fridge until ready), then for main course a steak like london broil is always a hit. Then for sides, a potato and a veg.
OR
CHILI NIGHT!!! make a big pot of chili then have all toppings for people to add. sour cream, chopped onions, olives, cheese, etc. bread or tortilla chips to dip into it.

Re: appetizers/dinner ideas

I love appetizers and cocktail parties but usually when I have people over I just do one or two appetizers and then give them a full meal consisting of a meat, a vegetable and then either potato, rice or pasta. then dessert.

but if you want to do just appetizers. I say go for it!

Re: appetizers/dinner ideas

Depends on your friends - I've done both. I feel like a bunch of apps and liquor go over better and is totally so much easier for you
