Are any of you

planning on moving out of New York in order to have a better life?

My husband and I are seriously talking about moving down south - it is just much cheaper than here. We feel that we can live a better life outside of New York.

Do any of you feel the same?

Re: Are any of you

As of right now, no, we are staying in NY. If at some point DH's music career takes a different turn we might have to move to CA, which in my eyes is like making a lateral move with regard to expenses.

Re: Are any of you

No plans at all. We have so many family and friends here that I don't see us leaving unless it's job related - which isn't an issue right now.

We really enjoy NYC and take advantage of being so close to it (shows, dinner in the city, etc)

YES Fh and I have spoken about it A LOT. It's very expensive in NY and we're not in wonderful career paths where we couldn't leave!

I was about to say the same thing - I can't imagine having a better life anywhere else besides NY...I have visited many other cities and to me nothing compares!

Re: Are any of you

sorry, I like Boston and DC MUCH MORE than i like NY. It's fun to visit, but i'm tired of living here. I guess it comes from my STRONG dislike of crowded places. i like a slower pace too.

Re: Are any of you

I used to always think when i grew up I would move to upstate NY and live there.....but now I know I could never ever leave Long Island. No matter how expensive it is, it's an amazing place, with so many different types of people and places, and it's close to so many wonderful things...i can't imagine being as happy anywhere else!

Re: Are any of you

The idea of moving is definitely on the table. We're thinking of the Carolinas or the Virginias. As much as we love NY and our families, there is life outside of Long Island. Our jobs are pretty marketable, so we can go virtually anywhere.

Re: Are any of you

I bring it up QUITE OFTEN!! I would be packed in 10 minutes if DH ever said the word. I wish I could move down to Florida. Most of my family lives down there. But we have too much going on here right now to go anywhere for at least 7 years. DH has a son here and my mom is here as well as my brother. I told my DH that if we were not married right now, I would most definitley be living in Florida right now. I would also be able to get a job MUCH easier down south!!

Re: Are any of you

Although I didn't go far, my DH and I bought a great house in a very pretty neighborhood in NJ for much less than it would be in NY. It is still close to our NY family but far enough that it is 'out of NY' if that makes sense!

My DH & I just made the deciesion to leave NY. We talked about it for years & now are going to start the serious phase of being ready(such as saving, were to live, were to work, etc.). If all goes well will be out of NY in October 2005.

Re: Are any of you

We're in London right now. DH is British, so I've agreed to try out the UK for a little while under the condition that we'll eventually move back to New York. I know it's expensive, but jobs are better paid there than almost anywhere else. Even here in London things are expensive and you don't get paid as well, especially in the arts, which is my field.

I miss it so much right now--concerts in the Park, bars with outside tables, everything is so close.

Re: Are any of you

London is wonderful. My sister has lived there for 4 years before returning to the states for grad school. She hopes to return to London in the near future. I think the way of life in the UK and Europe is alot more relaxed, and you gotta love all those bank holidays! Its better than the 2weeks vacation time most employers here in the states give employees!

Re: Are any of you

DH and I live in Northern Virginia, but we plan on moving as soon as we can get out of here. (I've lived here for 6 years, he's been here for 4.) Neither of us like it. It's expensive (unless you live out in the boonies) and the traffic is really bad. I would LOVE to move back to New York - I miss it so much, but it's just as expensive as here and the houses are older. DH wants to move to Atlanta, but I can't stand the heat and humidity. So, we're thinking about Colorado Springs, where our company has an office and the housing is a lot cheaper (plus it's a lot cooler, temperature-wise ) But for now, we're stuck where we are......thank goodness we have good jobs!
