Any other primary teachers going out of their minds?
Or is it just me?
I am HATING first grade this year....or maybe I've just lost patience in my second year teaching. I dread when they walk in because I just can't seem to get them to follow directions unless there's a friggin' instrument in their hand.
What sux is, yesterday was such a good day. I was amazed at how well all my classes behaved.
This afternoon was a loooong road downhill with 4th graders acting like self conscious 5th graders already and then the irritating 1st graders walk in to finish it off.
UGH I wish I could be that hyper positive patient teacher again but I don't have it in me!! Is it just Halloween? Anyone else going out of their minds??!

aww tara i am sorry you have to deal with those annoying 5 and 6 year olds! i am not a teacher so i don't have any advice, but i remember i had a great teacher in elementary school who would start the lesson but would only whisper if the students were acting rowdy, so they ahd to be quiet to hear her if they were going to pass the class. good luck with them!

Yes. I feel the same way. I can't stand these kids this year! They are rude and don't listen. I don't have first graders though, I have 10th graders, but I still feel the same way you do. I had to get really nasty with my classes today. I hate that feeling.

I feel ya!!! 2 years of teaching 3rd grade and I'm DONE!!!!! I hate teaching- they def burnt me out!! I quit last year, moved back to LI and now I'm happily subbing while I determine what I want to be when I grow up!!
I don't know what to tell you to help make it any better because those little crumb snatchers got the best of me!!

I am a first grade teacher, and I have lost my mind, voice, soul, and whatever else I can lose. They drive me crazzzzzzzy everyday. Now with the cold weather, I have the kids that wipe their noses in their hand, stick their fingers in their nose, cough without covering, and to top it off they don't know how to blow their nose in a tissue. Then, they get obsessed with the tissue and have to keep pulling them out of the box. That's only a small part of my day...Lord help me to June, if I can make it.
P.S. I have a 1st grader who is 5ft (I'm 5'2). Is that normal?

Have you been in my class?? lol! I teach kindergarten and my kids are SOOOO chatty this year that I feel like nothing I can do will control them! If I'm not tying shoes, then I'm rubbing the backs of those missing their parents, and telling boys that they can't kiss or kick the girls. I had to yank a boy's pants up the other day because he came out of the bathroom with them around his ankles due to in his words 'things got a little crazy in there and I pee peed on my pants' I feel exhausted every afternoon!!

I'm so glad I can come here and vent and you all know what it's like! I was really starting to get down on myself, thinking it was ALL me and that I just didn't know how to engage these kids. My confidence has been WAY down lately. Now I know it's a universal problem!
OMG...pants down at his ankles!! And a 5 foot 1st grader? VERY odd!!!!!!!!!!!!

omg!!!! I would love to see that. That kid is gonna end up being 7 ft tall.

No Sat will be a better day- NO SCHOOL!! Fridays are the absolute worst- the kids are out of control!!

It's funny... at lunch today all the teachers were talking about how none of the classes are as good this year, when compared to last. I do have to say that 1st and 2nd grade are my worst two grades and I have them back to back in the afternoon everyday but Friday (TGIF!). You know its sad when your kinders can sit quietly, follow directions, raise their hands, answer questions with well thought out answers, etc. My 1st graders are the bane of my existence (and the 1st grade teachers agree) plus they have their prep at the end of the day, so there's even less hope for them.
The worst part about teaching music -- is that if you have a bad class, you don't just get rid of them after a year -- you can have them for six years. And the kids who drive us the most crazy always seem to have younger siblings that are 100x worse!
