I was just asked to teach English II at the college I teach at. However, I never taught the class before so its a whole new challenge for me. In the past teachers have assigned plays or playwrights to students to research, write a paper on and give an oral report. Since its the summer, and I want to make it more interesting and use analytical skills, I was thinking of having them read a book or play that was turned into a movie, then watch the movie in class and analyze both. The class is small, but made up of 5 guys, so I need a book that would appeal to them. (too bad it wasnt all girls or I would have them read the Notebook!! )
And it starts Monday!!!
Thanks in advance!

Re: Books or plays turned into movies
I like the idea of 'One Flew Over the Cookoos Nest' only because it's interesting to everybody (guys & girls of almost any age). It's not like having them read Shakespeare or Jane Austen which certainly does not appeal to everyone.
If you're looking for something more recent though - pretty much all of Steven King's books have been made into films. My favorite, of course, being 'The Green Mile'. Awesome story!!!

Re: Books or plays turned into movies
nm - I was going to suggest 'Wicked' which is a book turned to play. But that wouldn't work since the movie doesn't come out for another year
That would be a fun field trip tho!!! Take 'em all to Broadway. lol

1. The Outsiders 2. Death of a Salesman 3. Lord of the Flies 4. To Kill a Mockingbird
OMG it would be easier if it were girls. It's an english class so it should be lit right? nothing lame like X-Men or a Stephen King book right?
Outsiders and Death of a Salesman were great too! I think Outsiders might be to young though. I read it in 6th grade.
I was thinking the same thing
