Brides who had long engagements ...

Brides who had long engagements ...

So how do you feel now that it's over? Do you think it was worth the long wait if you had a long engagement? I know it depends on your reasons for waiting, i.e., school is a biggie. But if you waited mostly for the money, do you feel like you would have been just as happy with a smaller, less expensive wedding now and happier with getting married sooner?

I don't think the long engagement was worth it. We waited as long as we did to save money for the wedding, and now that everything is said and done, I would have preferred to use that money for a house and would have been just as happy if DH and I eloped in Las Vegas. Don't get me wrong, I love being married, but I don't think the wedding was worth it. This also could be because this was my second time around and I never thought I would have another big wedding, but it was really important to DH.

Waiting 4 years was DEFINITELY worth it! We waited for monetary reasons, but also because we were young when we got engaged and marriage would have been rough. The big wedding was really worth waiting for and better than we thought.

ETA: But we planned in 7 months. It was the best of both worlds. I can't imagine planning for 2+ years.

We were engaged 20 months and I totally could have done without the long wait. I look at the 2007 and 2008 brides and I think wow - I couldn't start planning with so much to go. I didn't start actually planning my wedding until around a little over a year to go.

But then I also think about how much I enjoyed that period in my life and I'm glad it lasted awhile. DH and I learned alot about each other and really felt we prepared ourselves for marriage. I guess I just feel that money alone was not a good enough reason to wait.

I would not have done anything differently

Waiting a year and a half was worth it! No regrets here.

We learned how to be very patient with eachother throught out the planning process. I won't deny that there were times that we did want to kill one another.

I don't regret it at all. I loved having a year to just enjoy the engagement before I started planning.

2 yr engagement was ok...our status has changed but life always been the same.
we lived together for 5 years before the wedding so we were ok with the long engagement

We waited 2 1/2 years b/c dh would be finished w/ school then. I wish we would have waited long b/c he is still not done . I am glad that we waited awhile though, we did save a lot of money.

That's what we did, we started planing a year or a year and a half before. Anything earlier than that like two years is just silly. I wouldn't feel like a bride to be b/c it was so far away!

Had a long engagement...and I definitely enjoyed having time to plan and do the little things I found important.

We didnt wait for any particular reason aside from the fact I was not in any rush and I wanted to enjoy the experience as much as possible. (not to mention more time to save help)

I think I would have felt more cheated and sad it was over if my engagement was short.

We waited because of money and were fortunate enough to close on a house a month before the wedding.
If we did it any other way, maybe we wouldn't be as happy/settled/comfortable etc. as we are now.

We had a long engagement - 3yrs and I didn't mind. We got engaged 7 months after dating and then lived together before so I think it was appropriate that we take our time and enjoy living with each other getting to know how thing would be. Plus my husband was in a two year program finishing his bachelors before the wedding so it worked out.

I DEFINITELY think the long engagement was worth it. We had a two and a half year engagement, and I wouldn't go back and change that. Our wedding was as beautiful as it was because of it. Plus, the way I felt was that we would be together that whole time, anyway, engaged or not, so what was the big deal to wait? And it wasn't a big deal for us.

We were engaged for 2 years and 2 months. I dont think I would have changed anything. I liked being able to plan slowly while I was in grad school. Because I had such a long timespan in which to do things, my life was not consumed with wedding planning. We just simply weren't ready to get married before then anyhow.
