Can I get an opinion?

Can I get an opinion?

Cause you all are always awesome with that.

What do we think of this fireplace...love it or hate it?

Background: I want a fireplace for the living room to fill out this empty wall and for heat because this room always takes forever to warm up. I think this one is the best for our space. There's another we are considering but it's more expensive (only $100) and DH doesn't like it as much. I like it more than this one but I don't care too much, I'm just happy to get one.

Is it electric? I'd be worried about the cost per month to keep that thing on!

It's electric.

Our house is complicated...on the 1st floor we have oil heat but in the 2 new bedrooms which we put in last year, we have central air/heat which is electric. SO it's like we run the heat forever to get the living room warm downstairs and then we shut it off and go upstairs. I'd much rather use a fireplace to heat one room than heat six rooms down here. I hope that makes sense...

Can you post the other one? IMHO I'm not crazy about this one but it depends on what the rest of the room looks like. . I can see it blending in and looking cozy and great or looking more like a random cheap fireplace . .i would go with your gut on which one you like more. .

It's like $700, it's not that cheap lol.

I like the second one better, but I agree that it's difficult to say without seeing the room it would go in and what else would be in the room, KWIM?

Oh I am totally sorry - I had bad phrasing. I soooo did not mean to imply that you or or the fireplace was cheap!!!! I meant more that the rest of the room could influence how it looked and make it look cheaper or nicer! I like the 2nd one slightly better but do think both are nice. .

No, no it's ok. I certainly don't want to spend that much and have it look 'cheap'.

Both fireplaces are oak, the two couches in the room are suede with oak trim so it should match. We also have an entertainment center in the room which is really the only other furniture really. There is also an entertainment center which doesn't match anything and will go eventually.

I don't really love either but I like the first one better of the two.

I always thought one of those types of fire places is a nice touch, but I heard you only generate enough heat to heat the area right next to it, not heat a whole room. Maybe that was the older type (or less expensive type) model.

You should get the one you both like best. You'll still be filling it with your own accessories (you should find out if there's a weight limit for that) and it will personalize it a lot.
