Re: CARS!
Do you prefer a car or SUV?
I have a 2009 Ford Edge Limited and I freaking love it. Good on gas, 5 star safety all around, lots of space, and the panoramic sunroof is great. Also, Ford cars have the Sync technology, so if you have an iphone, it wirelessly plays the music on it, syncs your contacts with the bluetooth so you can have totally hands-free conversations, etc. Ford has adopted Volvo's safety standards in almost all of its vehicles, including the Edge.
We put down $5k when we bought it, but we have 0% financing my payment is $520 / month for 60 months.

Re: CARS!
I have always leased cars...had honda civics, scion TC, SUV and now I finally bought my first car. I have a MINI cooper conv.
I paid anywhere from 190 to 330 for my cars.
My insurance ranged from a high of 140 a month to a low (currently) of 70/month

Re: CARS!
I have also both owned and leased cars (owned 3 before my current car - which is a lease). Once my lease is up I will definitely go back to owning a car...just my personal preference. There are both good and bad things about both. Anywho - see what you can afford and what you can put down...that might help you decide between leasing and financing...and for financing this will also help you determine if you can afford a new car or a used one. Also - take a look at the mileage for leases and what the leases include (oil changes, various services, etc). If financing - take a look at the APR (which has a huge effect on your monthly payment) and shop around....
You can find a car payment calculator online....just search it in google...
HTH and good luck - I love car shopping!!

Re: CARS!
I financed my first Jetta. I put down 10000 and paid 281 a month for 5 years. The car didn't make it that long (accident). Right now they are having really good deals on VW's. I think you can lease one for 199 a month.

Did you take your car to a mechanic to find out what happened?

Re: CARS!
I've always leased because it's the cheapet. Also, from what I've read, a lot of experts say to not put any money down on leases. I have paid from $200-$230 per month on my cars, with one putting a few thousand down and my current least I put 0 down which was great. I stayed with the same make car so they gave me a great deal. I guess it depends on how much you drive. If you go over the mileage, you will have to pay a lot of money when you return the car so ask for the maximum allowance of miles if that's the case, usually 15k annually but most places give you 12 or even 10K. Also, you have to try to keep your cars in good shape. In my case, I had minor dents on my bumper but since I stayed with the same make car, I wasn't required to pay for any wear and tear. For me, financing is too expensive.

Re: CARS!
We have two... Mercury Mountaineer 2005 (Finance)- $222 Honda CRV 2007 (Lease)- $320
Insurance for both $200..
I would prefer to finance than lease. at least you can stay with the car after all those payments.
Good Luck

I have an 05 Scion tC, and I love it. Perfect guidette mobile. It's paid off now, but I put 4k down and the payments were 281/5 years, and I bought it new. If you're looking for a Toyota let me know and I can pass along my dad's info.
