im moody & anxious to begin with so excuse me- but this is irritating-anyway my thought is this... it's a sweet 16- there really isnt a huge need for alcohol there to begin with. I would hope that the adults can go more than 4 hrs without a drink... also, people have become accustomed to expecting free drinks at every party they go to. Ive been to a few (5 or so) sweet 16s- plus 1 lower budget wedding- where there has been a cash bar- it didn't ruin the party.

You know - you got me wondering what we did at my sweet 16! I cannot remember and need to call my mom.

Ok as for me - this could go 2 ways. If the family is throwing a huge, elaborate party - I may question why they didnt get the liquor package?? At the same time I wouldnt complain though because I understand the whole underage drinking thing and tend to think these Sweet 16's really get thrown out of proportion these days.

OK I am no help - and this may be horrible to say but I think it depends on the people who are throwing the party. If it is someone who has the $$ - I may be like ok its weird there is no liquor but I wouldnt make a big stink or anything. If it is someone more conserative, I may just be like whatever.

I think cash bar anywhere is tacky.

Since it was a sweet 16 and there were going to be many people there under age, maybe they were thinking it might have reduced the chance of someone underage drinking.....

Good point. I agree as well.
However - for me personally I would think about the ratio children to adults and than decide.
Some people have tons of adults and that can get costly. It is primarily a party for children - is it not

I don't assume a sweet 16 that has the option of having a bar is a 'kids party'. It sounds more like a family event. FWIW, our family events have alcohol. Always. Everyone's perfectly capable of going without a drink all week, they've got nothing to prove on the weekends.

I generally fall into the camp that says you shouldn't expect guests to pay anything. You don't invite people to come spend their own money. If they wanted to spend money, they'd do it in the time and place of their choosing.

Ditto, but I'm real on the border about having liquor at a kids party to begin with.

Many kids parties I've been to have alcohol- christenings, 1st birthdays in the park, house parties, etc.

I see that you are agreeing with me....so if this comes across as abnoxious I don't mean it to be.

I think there is a difference between a sweet 16 and a christening......
