chagning name... help!!!

chagning name... help!!!

When we got our marriage certificate I took his last name, but now I want to hyphenate on ss and dmv, etc.

Can I do that? Anyone know?

One of my friends tried to do that and the SS office told her that she will have to go to court and change her name legally to that name. Also, with taxes and other legal papers, it can get complicated. I tried to do that too and it didn't work out for some reason with my paycheck at work...not trying to discourage you, just let you know that it isn't as easy as it sounds (or should be) to do (sigh).

ok, i guess ss wouldnt be bad, but what about dmv? if i hyphenated on my license, wouldn't that make payroll stuff easier? i want to keep my maiden name professionally and i hope its not too late!

I think you have to change it in court before you can hyphenate it to get the SS card with your new name and then use it at DMV. That's what it sounded like when my and my friend went to the SS office.

I put my husbands last name on the license...but never changed my last name,,,its been a year and I have had no issues, did my taxes and everything, using my maiden name, everything is still in my maiden name actually even work.
