Closing on a house...are we supposed to tip ppl?
I know some of you girls just recently bought homes so this question goes out to you:Our closing is scheduled for tomorrow and I remember someone once saying that you have to tip everyone at the closing. Does anyone know anything about this? Who do we tip and how much?
TIA
P.S. I'm totally freaking out!!!

i've heard of people tipping .... but i didn't tip at my closing.i wouldn't worry about it.... they're making enough money off of you anyhow with the closing costs and whatnot.

DH tipped his mortgage broker because he did a loooot of work for him, like a lot of phone calls, running around, gathering info, etc.

We did. We got the lawyer, mortgage broker & our real estate agent 100 gift cert. to Mio Posto Restuarant & a bottle of Santa Margherita each. They were so suprised & were very thankful. Oh & btw if your mortgage broker is charging you more then 2% our charged 1% he is robbing you. I hope you got a good faith est.

Yes actually. They were also friends. My real estate agent is my friend since 6th grade. The others are friends with my sisters. They also got us really nice gifts. We didnt have to do a thing. Plus we did alot of chaging around things & kept changing our down payment at first just 20% & then we decided to put down 35% so they had to redo alot of things. hahahahaha Any q's i had i went to them &they dealt with it for us. They were great.

Re: Closing on a house...are we supposed to tip ppl?
I am a real estate attorney and do this every day.....The ONLY person you SHOULD tip is the title closer because that is the only way they get paid. The attorney will tell you the amount, but it should only be about $100....and really, it's not so much a tip as much as it is a payment for their services. They don't get paid to attend your closing, so you're compensating them for being there and taking care of your documents.
And to the person who gave their lawyer a bottle of wine.....can you be my new client?

No way, all I did the whole time was yell at people who made everything so difficult and write checks so definitely NOT.On the other hand, our real estate agent gave us a $100 gift card to home depot.

Re: Closing on a house...are we supposed to tip ppl?
I did. I tipped the notary and the title attorney, and I represented myself for my closing on my condo. I was told that tipping was customary. I think I gave the notary $ 100.If I had known tipping wasn't required, I wouldn't have done it!
