my son is receiving his first holy communion this May and we're having a little party.. I would hate for my sister & brother to feel obligated to give that amount.. they just had babies and bought homes.

yikes.

Of course...I would give $100 if it was a friend's baby, or a cousin's baby, but if I was the godmother and the aunt, like my brother's new baby for instance, I would give at least $500, maybe $1000....it will depend on what the bank account looks like next month for his christening.

Re: Communion gift...

my DH's cousin kid made his last week, we gave $50. I think its great and all the give 500 or even 1000, but I think that its more what you can give that matters.

me too.

but I'm also constantly broke... if I had the $ to give 500 without batting an eye, of course I would feel differently.

My son is my sister & brother's godson AND nephew, and I can't imagine accepting that much from them as a gift...
