never got my food processor and i am convinced i NEED it i order to take my cooking to the next level. However, i know many great cooks who never use it and say it is a waste. i know it depends on personal preference...
i'm thinking of just getting a 3 cup mini food processor to do hummus and marinades and stuff in... $30 as opposed to $100-ish for the 7 cup processor!
Just looking for input.
thanks!!

Re: cooks: do you use your food proccessor?
i would think the 3 cup would be good... its not something i use in my day to day stuff - we got a blender/ food processer combo- its by cusinart- it has a food processer attachment that goes on the blender base, so at least i don't feel guilty if i don't use it everyday, because it was part of a combo thing...

Re: cooks: do you use your food proccessor?
My DH insisted that we absolutely needed a 7 cup food processor, even though we already had a 3 cup food processor / blender. So his mother got him one for Christmas this year, and he still uses the 3 cup one.

i would say (not as a pro, but as a lover of cooking) that if you love to cook, it should be something to concider. i have the large oneand do not use it too often but when you need it it is very handy. you know they can grate cheese and slice stuff. i love to chop things by hand. anyway enough of my ramble. i would say at least have the small one

Hi, I had the small one ($30) and frankly it was usless. You really could not even make 1 1/2 servings in it. I would try to make sauces and things and proportion everything out and it would spill over. Every one else I know who has the small one says the same thing. We registered for and receved the 7 cup and it is great, I could see usinging it for comfortably making servings for 4-5 people. I like to use it to make my tunafish and to make sauces. I use it about 3 times a month. My mom uses hers at least 2-3 times a week, but she has the 11 cup one.

I'm definitely NOT what is considered to be a good cook (hey, my DH even admitted it at the WOTY in front of 150 people )
I didn't register for a food processor, but I did register and get the 3-cup mini chopper. I use it to make tuna salad for tuna melts - one of my famous dishes I have to say, it's great! I use it to chop up veggies too.
I actually do want a food processor. it's a handy thing to have in the house. Especially if you want a baby like I do you can make baby food

i have a large 7 cup one and i find i use it more than the small one I had because it can actually hold everything vs. doing little batches. i love mine.

Re: cooks: do you use your food proccessor?
I do a lot of cooking and I use my food processor all of the time. Mine is larger than 7 cups, but it is good for chopping/slicing veggies and cheeses, chopping nuts, making dough, pureeing soups and sauces... all sorts of things.

We have both of the combo one and the 11 cup. We use the combo one all the time to shred cheese, mince vegetables...make dips it's awesome!

I love to cook and cook all the time. I think I've only used my food processor once so far and that was at Hannukkah to make potato latkes.

Re: cooks: do you use your food proccessor?
thanks for all the great responses!
I'm going to check out the 3 cup and the 7 cup next weekend and decide. This helped though...
My question: Why not make a FIVE cup one?!

Re: cooks: do you use your food proccessor?
Gotta say, I love to cook. I make everything. I have a 7 cup FP and never use it. NEVER!
Use it once and it was such a PIA. I don't miss it. I chp everything by hand or use the blender.
The bullet is something I would like to get to make smoothies though.
Also, if I had room on my counter for it, I would use it more, but it's a big space hog.
Same goes for the mixers. If it's on your counter, you will use it. I don't have one and don't have room for it.

We use ours...DH loves it....we use it for sauces, we made almond butter the other day from raw almonds, use it to slice things, etc, etc. I got by without one for a while but now wouldn't want to be w/o it!

We use ours a lot, too. We have the 7-cup one. We have the one with the slicer and chopper attachment, so we use it to slice stuff, chop stuff, in addition to making sauces, rubs, etc.

I don't have a food processor, my blender came with an attachement -- I only used it about once...but then again I'm not much of a cook
