I should be transcribing this chicken scratch that this one lady gave me, but I can't figure it out..so I am bored lol

If you want just a nice Digital Camera, I would recommend the Sony Cybershot. I have had that camera forever, and it has always served me well. It is a 4.5 megapixels, but you can probably find a 5 or 6 megapixel cybershot at a better price now. I have my nikon that DH got me for my b-day one year, but I have to say, I sometimes use my Cybershot when my Nikon is charging b/c it's not that bad.
Just my opinion from what I have and what I have used. :)
I have a cybershot 7.2 mega pixel and it captures great pics, so a I second your recommendation, and from what I am aware sony cybershots are like $169.00

I think they are closer to $99 for the 7.2 mgpx cybershot. I think it was $199 a yr and a half ago when i got it.
I have one and I'm not impressed w/ it at all. Its slow at taking pics. And if its dark (like a wedding) the pics are dark and blurry and much too slow to get the shot.
Im wondering if somethings wrong w/ mine b/c everyone else i know loves theirs.

If you want a really good point and shoot, my friend has aCannon Powershot 1'm not 100 % certain but i dont think you can focus in w/ the blurred background. I think its autofocus only. But is has great zoom and its quick.
If you want to take more artistic photos then go w/ a digital SLR like a Nikon d80 or d90 or a Cannon rebel. They are called 'pro-sumer' (somewhere between consumer and pro).

Really?? and it's on the correct, regular setting??? Sometimes I hit a button and it takes FOREVER for it to take the picuture and it's dark, but I know you know what you are doing, so maybe that's not what I pushed lol
:-/ I have had my Cybershot for maybe 4 years now, and I keep saying now that I got my Nikon, I will sell it, but I love it so much and it's such a great backup camera to take when I don't want ot lug around my Nikon, that I don't want to get rid of it.

Christine, these are gorgeous pics! What camera do you use? Did you take any classes or are you learning on your own? I would love to get into photography as a hobby. I look forward to taking many pics of my kids.
I on the other hand bellydance as a hobby. I will be doing a solo soon (April) when I get the video I will post.
thanks ladies. I cant wait to get out this spring and take pics and learn hands on. There is sooo much to learn w/ photography and its all new to me.
I have a Nikon d80. I took a course w/ Nikon that teaches you the camera settings but not much about photography or when to use what setting. I'm reading a book now that tells you more of those details. (the digital photography book by scott kelby)

Its great for posed pics in lit room, but used it all year at all the weddings i went to and missed a lot of shots. Even w/ the soft light setting and all.
I still use it b/c its not always easy to lug the nikon and change lenses for a simple shot to 2.

Is the book helping you understand the camera settings more??? b/c I think I may pick that up then. I could read the instruction booklet lol but I don't think that will really help me.

It tells you some of the settings to use for particular types of shots. It doesnt go through each setting and ahow what upping the shade setting in white balance will do, but it tells you a little. Its only $20 so it was worth it.
There is also a nikon book for each camera that goes more in depth than the manual (which the Nikon guy said to NEVER try to read front to back b/c its boring and confusing as all hell). I'm not sure if that book is any easier to follow though. I like the one I have b/c b/c its in stupid people terms haha
