Copying DVD?

I found it VERY hard i had to download a software to rip it off the dvd then convert it to a usable source to import into premiere then slice it up then compress it then upload it. I have a mac and i used the folllowing: mactheripper, then used quicktime pro then premiere then idvd (but you could use quicktime alone to splice I just found it hard and took forever)
