I have 2 accts both w/ 1 past-due payment from 4 years ago. I read online that sometimes credit card companies are willing to remove negative info before the 7 year deadline. I am going to write to the companies asking (ok, begging) for them to remove the late payment from my report. I've been on time every other time and always pay more than the minimim. Anyone ever done this? Do I have any chance of being successful?

we did and i have a form letter at work that i can email- but am not there until monday.
you basically ask the companies to remove it and cc all three credit bureaus- if the company does not respond within 30 days- by law it must be removed from your credit report
it worked for me with ny & co- i had a late payment years ago and I wrote and said based on my overall history with them i would like them to remove it- and they responded and removed it.
if you want the letter- i can send it to you monday.

I have been a customer of NY & Copany for four years and based on my entire history with you I request that you remove any negative information ASAP. I am also disputing this with all three credit bureaus. The following information therefore needs to be verified and deleted from the report as soon as possible: Account # Negative information: Reported to Experian- 30 days late March 2005 Reported to Equifax- 30 days late February 2005 Reported to TransUnion- 30 days late February 2005 Please delete the above information as quickly as possible.
