Dental work and payment - need some advice

Dental work and payment - need some advice

My husband never had debt until we got married. He started to get all this dental work done because his teeth basically are in horrible condition and his old dentist destroyed his mouth. So now I asked him a total of what he has payed for and its 5K! He even has insurance but it doesn't mean it pays for it all. I need to know what the hell are we going to do?

I am about to get an inheritance that will pay off my own student loan/cc debt but I doubt I will have anything to really help me out left over. So I wanted to ask anyone on here if they knew what to do in this case?

We have insurance - should we take another secondary plan out maybe to help out?

Dentist handed us a credit card form to fill out just for dental work - i rather not do this but does anyone have experience with that?

ANY other suggestions?

I would put it on a 0% interest card and pay it off ASAP. $5k SOUNDS like a lot but its really not that terrible and can actually help you pay off your credit.

I would use the inheritance for the dental work. Student loan is a write off and interest is usually so low to begin with.

most dentist offices can put you on a payment plan to pay it off. ALso if he is going to get more work done, dont do it right now, wait until january bc once january comes you have the money again on your dental plan. I am getting work done now and using up the $1500 i have on my dental plan, but the rest of it i will finish in January bc you start clean again and will have an additional $1500.

I told dh he needs to start handling this stuff like a man and just talk to his dentist. Its not that hard I explained to him to ask him about putting him on a payment plan instead of him constantly charging it. He keeps getting chronic pain so he visits the dentist once every two weeks, and then gets one or two root canals or a tooth extracted. Its little work here and there that is just adding up. I wish he would just get his teeth ripped out and end it all ready but of course I realize he can't do that.

I just got a root canal yesterday and the total cost was $1550 for it, but insurance will only cover $1000. I think unfortunately dental work is just really expensive and there's not much we can do about it. It totally sux to pay over $500 and then know I need to pay for a crown as well. Do you know how secondary insurance works?

be careful with that. one of my loan has 11% interest and the other two are 8% and 8.5%. weigh that against whatever route you could take for the dental (ie what's the interest rate on the credit card, etc.)

I had a lot of dental work done a while ago and did some sort of credit card plan with them I think it was called dentacare or something like that. Look into some kind of plan with them. Good Luck!

I would ask to get on a payment plan.... there's NO interest on a payment plan...

No biggie. I got Invasalign - insurance didn't cover anything and I made a down payment and am on a payment plan. Total for it was 5K as well... I pay $200/month.

Re: Dental work and payment - need some advice

the student loan needs to be paid off first - my parents were very kind to lay out the money interest free after my loan came up so i want them to get it back asap so I owe them nothing. CC will be paid off as well but there is only enough for one debt not both debts. If there is money left over it deff. goes straight to him for his cc.

I think the payment plan will have to work otherwise the dental credit card. He came back with now a massive infection in his mouth and its a big mess Thank you all!
