Did you have your dream wedding?

Original post by PeteysBride

I know most of us have fantastic days but was it the dream you had as a little girl when you walked around in your white nightgown with a lace doily on your head?

I know mine changed from when I was a kid. I wanted the princess Cinderella wedding with huge ball skirt and tons of people in a magic garden somewhere.

Thn DH and I wanted a beach/garden destination wedding but we ened up with what we ahd which was great. Realistically, we had a great day and kept to budget which we wanted to do and are happily married.

BUT if we had oooodles of money and could have been crazy extravagent... Definetly would have been like a Bronx Botanical Gardens wedding with the ceremony and pictures outside and then the reception inside their conservatory. No glass slippers but definetly a more traditional ball gown (I bought my dress with a destinationw edding in mind) and lace and flower appliques on it to match the garden theme. Everythign would have been garden theme secentered. Still colorful but definetly more lavish.

Anyone else?

Re: Did you have your dream wedding?

It's funny. I didn't really have a concept of my 'dream' wedding until I was actually engaged.
In her speech, my MOH said we were never the girls that played wedding and wrapped ourselves in white sheets. We were too busy playing career games: lawyer, radio dj's, and playwrights to name a few.

The hall we booked turned out to be great, but I can't say that I always wanted to get married there. But we ended up there for quite a few reasons and I realized I could make it 'my way' with all my special touches and decor ideas. Half way through the planning, I realized what I would've done if money was no object. We would've gotten married at a vineyard (it suits us since we're both winos), outside with Martha Stewart like rustic decor.

But to get cheesy for a minute, I still think I had a dream wedding, b/c I got to marry the man of my dreams

I knew a few years ago when I went to Atlantica that if I ever got married, it would be there, BUT I would have preferred to have had it at night. But it was literally $80-100 MORE per person to do it at night. I don't regret having a day wedding but I sometimes wish it was an evening one instead.

I never really planned or thought about my wedding when I was a kid, all I wanted as a young child was to be president (weird, I know). In planning, my wedding was beautiful and amazing and could definitely be a 'dream wedding'. Maybe just not my dream, I'm not big on being the center of attention. What I wanted was 10 people on a cliff overlooking the ocean. Instead we had 250 ppl in NY, courtesy of some very persuasive parents, but I cant complain. Our parents threw us a lavish, elegant, classy event and we wanted for nothing. Everyone had a great time including me!

I did have my dream wedding.. it was actually better than I had envisioned, and I'm so thankful and lucky that my parents and in-laws really made my 'dream-wedding' come alive, helping and advising me along the way, and always making sure that I was happy. I have no regrets ... I loved everything I did ... even though I'm sure the majority of my guests did not realize how everything matched with the aqua and ivory colors and monogram.

Re: Did you have your dream wedding?

I always dreamt of marrying a millionaire who can afford anything my heart desires, but ended up marrying an average guy!
So, no, my wedding was not the wedding of my dreams.
I had a budget and had to really stick to it, especially since we were paying ourselves.

Re: Did you have your dream wedding?

I never had a 'dream' wedding but I did have expectations of what I wanted for my wedding. I always wanted an outdoor wedding, in a garden, which I had. I also wanted the classical music, or musicians playing, which I also had. I wanted good food, great music, family and friends. Everything that was planned was pretty much part of a dream I had or DH had. So in essence, I guess everything we dreamt of was fulfilled.
At first we were even thinking of having a destination wedding, but DH and I changed our minds after I logged on here and saw all the beautiful things girls were doing in NYC and LI. When we also saw the possible reception halls, we also knew we could have something here in NY as oppossed to some distant place.

Re: Did you have your dream wedding?

I think while growing up I dreamed of 'being married' ... but not the actual wedding itself. And I can happily say that our marriage exceeds any hopes or expectations that I might have had.

I only started to imagine what the actual day might be like once we got engaged. And even then, I don't know if the dream started to formulate right away ... we debated about where to get married (the other hall was in a pretty different setting, with a different feel to the place -- Flowerfield vs. NRC!). I think it all solidified about 6 months before, and I do think that when I had a complete picture in mind, the day did live up to that dream/picture. None of it would have been possible without the help of our parents, and I will always be grateful to them for that! Honestly, there wasn't anything that I could have wished for that they wouldn't have done everything they could to help me make a reality. I am very lucky & blessed to be able to say that.

However, there is one thing I would change if I had magical powers and could go back in time --- I would have been pain free that day (instead of icing myself during hair & makeup, family pics, and right after our first dance!) I know I complain about it a lot, and you can't tell in the pics, but it really took away from the experience for me a bit.

Re: Did you have your dream wedding?

Although I loved our wedding day, if I could do it over, I would have made it much more smaller & intimate. I would have invited just immediate family & close friends. And I really wish I had finished the necessary paperwork to get my annulment so that DH & I could have gotten married in the Church. But I am going to get cracking on that as soon as possible so that we hopefully can do that next year.
