Did your DH help you with the Thank Yous at all?

Original post by JimmysBride

Last night I was stamping and labeling the TY envelopes (please let's not discuss how horribly late my TYs are!! ) and hinted at DH that he could pitch in.

His comment: 'I didn't sit on my azz at a desk all day!' (Big deal - he took a couple of days off to work on the house)

It's not like I asked him to write them, they were all written, I just hinted that he COULD help me with sticking the labels & stamps on, considering it was almost midnight and I had to go to work the next day, unlike him. Plus I was doing this in bed while watching TV, it's not like he even had to get uncomfortable to do this!

So he gets up OUT of bed and goes to play on the computer until I finish!

I am just totally shocked that he really honestly feels that he has ZERO obligation to thank anyone for the very generous gifts we got and that somehow, that's only MY job!! Meanwhile, whenever the gifts come up, he is always so quick to point out how HIS family was so much more generous than mine!!

Was your DH this way about the TYs?

He didn't do one. I also changed the picture that we picked and he was not happy with me on that. I then in turn told him since he was not going to be doing any of them at all I thought It would not bother him that I changed my mind. He still brings this up on occasion when we argue.

I still stand firm with my decision though. If I depended on him to send a thank you nobody would have received one.

I will give him one thing in his defense. He is a resident in his first year and works horrible hours so he really has no time. But even if he did have the time he would not do them

His excuses are as follows:

1. I have terrible handwriting.
2. Why didn't you wait until I got home from (fill in the blank) to do them?
3. I don't know what to write
4. I don't want to mess them up and get yelled at.
5. But YOU do it so much better.

This is EXACTLY what my DH will say when the time comes!! They must be twins
I voted NO b/c even though I didn't get them yet there is no way he will do anything more then drop them in the mailbox for me ( If he can even do that!!) I can't begin to tell you how many things have gotten 'lost' on the way to the mailbox and I find them weeks/months later

He sat and watched me - does that count for moral support?

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I got married the day after you and have about 20 left. The reason mine are so late, is because DH wanted to help. My side of the family was done within two months. He insisted he had to do his side. Very sweet of him I thought however, he doesn't have the time or the handwriting!

He addressed all of the envelopes and he wrote the TYs to his friends.

Heck, yeah! He did his side, and I did mine. But mine were done way sooner than his.

no, my DH has no concept of how a thank you card should be done.

When he made his First Communion, his mother put tags on all of the favors that said, 'Thank you for your generosity'

She is an old school Italian (from Italy), so as people gave him a gift, she would give them the favor with the thank you tag.

As such, my husband is a tad bit lacking in traditional etiquette.

I physically wrote them all out but he helped me with what to say. He also signed his name, put the picture in the card and stamped and sealed.

I counted that as helping.

He did his side and I did mine

Same here. Of course, my side was much bigger so he finished way before I did. And I had to tell him what to write.

I took care of them because I'm just better at that sort of stuff so I take care of it and let him handle the things I'd rather not do, like cleaning gutters and getting rid of a dead mouse in a trap. He did, at my urging, add some notes to a few TY's I'd written to his family so they were written by both of us.

In your DH's defense, I'd be annoyed too if my spouse had 'hinted' at midnight that I should be helping with a chore he chose to do at that time, when I was relaxing. If he wants my help I'd much rather have him ask outright, and plan a time that's convenient to both of us, rather than hit me with a late night ambush during my downtime.
