do you believe in slapping or spanking a child as a form of discipline?

I believe in spanking only if they got completely out of hand, after counting to 3, and the 'look' didnt work

i dont think i would ever slap the face though!

honestly--i was spanked as a child. i survived. controversial as it sounds--i'm sure i will spank my kids when they get crazy out of hand like my mom did to me. judge if you will---but i don't think a spanking destroys a kid.

i agree! no slapping, but a spank is ok after all other options.. and not like BEAT them, lol.

Yes, I do believe in in spanking-not slapping.
My father spanked me and I am just fine-not in jail, no secret murdering thoughts, etc. My father would count and give me the look of evil and even to this day that Look scares the bejesuss out of me like no other

I absolutely believe in spankings!! My dad has spanked me several times when I was being a brat. My mom used to hit me with a wooden spoon until she broke it on my brother! Too many kids grow up without getting any discipline and I saw the results of it on the streets when they were in trouble and in my handcuffs. Kids need the 'fear of God' put into them sometimes!

Although im a firm believer that hitting a small child is an ineffective way to manage their behavior, a spanking might be needed at times, i think that there are much better ways to discipline children though instead of physical punishment. Like verbal discipline, time-out, reasoning, compromise, etc. All the things my own parents DIDNT do basically since my parents believed in spanking lol.

I personally don't. I was never spanked as a child & I've never done it to my daughter. A couple of times I have tapped her hand when I catch her touching something she really shouldn't have, but that's it. I don't think spanking is that big of a deal (if it's not out of hand of course), but it's just not my thing.

this is sounding like i cant wait to beat my kids..but its not like that at all

i got hit like 4 times as a kid..like serious spanking and i NEVER did what i did again cause that sh*t hurt..i had an old school grandfather and what ever was in arms reach..was thrown at me..it was kind of fun trying to dodge things like books and remote controls

and my mom was a firm beliver in 'THE FLICK' and you are lucky if you dont know what that is..that seriously s u c k s when you dont see it coming

DH and I do not agree on this topic.

I believe in spanking. Growing up, i was spanked, slapped, and hit with wooden spoons. I turned out fine. Now, I wouldnt slap my child across the face (that was very devestating to me as a kid) and I'm not sure I'd use a wooden spoon either (although I joke about it all the time), but I believe that spanking on the bottom is a lesson learned. worked for me.

DH on the other hand never got spanked ever. And he doesnt believe in it.

If our kids take after ME...we'll be spanking them. I was a terrible child.

Hey, I was raised on slaps (not on the face tho) and I thik I turne dout pretty freaking good lol. I believe in disipline but there is def. a limit

I do not think there is anything wrong with it..though I will try everything in my power to avoid that.

I would never smack him..

To be honest I was about to come online and ask if anything of the other mother's ever have moments where they fantasize about beating the living cr@p out of their kid..

I used to tap my son on the hand and it didnt work...he's going through his terrible two's early and doing everything in his power to do everything I tell him not to....I feel bad doing it so I won't anymore. I'm trying to find other ways of discipline but nothings really working

but kids drive you nuts and when anything drives you crazy you want to kick scream and punch..it just so happens to be a kid in your case

almost every time i talk to my sister i hear her screaming ( she has a 3 and a 2 yr old and is 4 mo preggo) her life is nuts

shes like..get away im gonna beat you to the 3yr old..it crack me up

NEVER would hit a kid in the face or talk down to them like I see some parents do, calling them names because the emotional abuse is worse than physical. Physical heals.

As for spanking. I will probably light my kids booties up once or twice. I think I got hit 3 times as a kid. I lived but rest assured NEVER did whatever I got spanked for again.


I think with some things, spanking gets the idea through betetr to small kids. Like if a child wants to touch the stove, and the 'NO!' or the 'LOOK' doesn't work, a spanking will and I would prefer to make their but sore for a little while than them get a third degree burn like my little cousin did when she grabbed onto an iron because 'O' didn't work.
