Do you call your inlaws MOM and DAD??

Original post by CourtandJon

I do not. They have not offered and I have not asked to. My parents said the same about DH. 'We already have 2 kids that call us mom and dad and although we love him like a son, our names are just fine.' So what about you guys!!

I call DH's dad 'Pop' just like DH does (My Dad has passed).. I wouldn't feel comfortable calling his stepmom Mom anyway since he doesn't call her that himself! The name Mom is really reserved for just my Mom!

I never have & I don't think I ever will. They've never told me to & I have no desire.

Nope, I usually don't call them anything, just talk to them, lol. But when I have to address them or get their attention, I call them by their first names (even that feels weird, lol). I get along with them and love them, but my mom is my only mom, you know?

DH calls my mom 'mami' (just like I do) or 'ma' when he talks to her, but he always has, like since he met her! I think it's really cute.

marie u always crack me up

and nah - i dont really call her mom..usually just when i call & leave her a message i do. but other than that - nobody compares to my mommy. Besides, DH & i were together for 5 years before we were married...calling her anything else other than her name is a hard habit to break!

To be honest it really depends on the situation. I call my stepmother in-law by her first name. Since I work for my FIL if it is a work situation I will call him by Mr. ......., but we were are just hanging around I called him dadums as a joke and it stuck and very rarely I will call him fahter, but only when I am letting him know that dinner is ready. As for my MIL, I either call her Mom or by her first name.

I do call them Mom and Dad - I don't hate the idea, but I also don't love it.

Right after we got engaged, MIL started referring to herself as Mom around me. But everyone calls them Mom and Dad, close family friends and BIL's gf (who has been around much longer than me). If I didn't call them Mom and Dad, I would be the only one who didn't, so that's why its not SO weird to me.

I was raise very formally; you caleld adults Mrs. So and so or Mr. so and so. So until i got married, I called my IL's, Mr and Mrs. L LOL. NOW I call them Bob and Linda and its still so hard for me even after knowing them 5 years.

Pete calls my mom 'Moms' to tease her. Calls my ad 'pops' and my dad alays goes back and forth with him saying the only pop is what he;s going to do to Pete lol. Crazy family. Mu aunt who Im clsoe to he always calls Titi (aunt in spanish) but he pronounces it Tee-tee with long e sounds so always makes her laugh.

For Indian/West Indian people your always suppose to call an elder auntie or uncle, which I've done with DH parents before we were married but now it seems weird and i don't wanna call them mom and dad and they haven't offered for me to call them by their first name so...
i try to avoid speaking to them directly

my dh calls my mom 'baby-in-law' (my moms nickname is baby) and hes always called my dad by his first name so thats not an issue

Re: Do you call your inlaws MOM and DAD??

I only called my MIL 'mom' once and it was a total fluke, I don't know why I said it, but she really liked it and so did DH. I know she wishes I would call her mom, but I can't bring myself to say it. It feels weird to me. And I don't call FIL 'dad'.

The closest I get is 'Mom Lee' & 'Dad Mark'

On Christmas DH called my mom 'Mom' and it was really cute but made me feel bad about not calling his mom, mom.

I love my in laws and wouldn't have a problem calling them Mom and Dad, but DH calls them by their first names, so I do also. I think it's weird, but that's what the entire family does.

Dh calls my mom by her first name, but she gets all excited when he calls her Mom on a rare occasion.

My mom said taht she'd feel old if DH were to call her 'mom' (he's 4 years older than I am, and my mom is only 20 years older than I am)

I don't feel comfortable addressing anyone other than my own parents as 'mom and dad'

I tried to, but it just didn't feel right.

DHs SIL calls his mother 'mom' so I felt a little pressured to do the same, I think I've gotten over that though, I love my MIL, but I only have one Mom.
