Do you feel guilty spending money now that your finances are shared? UPDATED!

I want a new pair of UGGs and in the past i would have just bought them if I really wanted them, but I feel guilty to do it now that we're married and our finances are shared.... and since we track everything in Quicken

I rarely spend money on anything but gas and groceries but I cant help feel guilty.

Hopefully this will pass?

I do but just tell yourself you work hard for your money and have to reward yourself from time to time. Get those Uggs

this is why we still have separate accounts, though in all honesty dh would never make me feel bad and is always saying it's my money that I earned and I should do what i want with it. He actually told me to get a personal shopper with my bonus money [though i have no intention of doing that]

No but only because DH is the worst with money. He buys breakfast/lunch every day, buys stupid weapons, smokes a pack a day and spends money on things i cant even talk about here!!! so if i want to get something I do.

That being said, I have always been frugal so I never really spend money.

Re: Do you feel guilty spending money now that your finances are shared?

I e-mailed DH and he said to go ahead and buy them if I wanted so I did

I know I dont need his permission, and he's definitely never told me not to buy something, but I just feel like I should be extra frugal since it's 'our' money instead of just 'mine'

I guess it's better than the alternative (me running wild because I have more $$$ to spend)

sometimes--there's a coach bag i want. DH asked me to show it to him online -- and i told him that as much as i want it--i don't think its fair to spend so much on just me. that's just how i am though---i don't like the idea of money being spent on me. last year for my birthday he got me an iPod touch---i loved it--but felt guilty knowing he spent $300 on it!

No, Dh is good about letting me spend whatever I want no questions asked and I'm pretty conservative. I was just telling him the other day that I'm the best wife because I rarely bug him for $$$! In general though, I have always felt a little guilt when treating myself because usually when I do buy something it is a big expensive splurge!!!
