DOES ANYONE HELP THEIR HUBBY TO PACK WHEN HE

DOES ANYONE HELP THEIR HUBBY TO PACK WHEN HE

LEAVES FOR HIS TRIPS: I think Roger thinks that I am selfish, b/c he will say, honey can you please pack for me and I will say sorry buddy but I hate packing just as much as the next man.

The reason I don't want to do it is 1) I do not know how many days he is going to need something professional, 2) How many days he is going to need casual 3) I hate packing.

Are there any suggestions that you ladies can give so that I don't come off as if I don't want to help him. This morning as he was packing I was asking him things such as, do you have ties, boxers, socks etc, so in a way I did help, he forgot ties Just wanted to see what others think. Maybe a must pack list would be nice. I still don't want to pack, when we were leaving for our trip, I packed on Friday night, I hate packing and so does he.

My husband rarely travels for work but when we go on vacation, I usually help him pack.

I don't help DH but he never asks me to - we both fend for ourselves.

Maybe to be sweet you can make him a must have list?

Or my DH keeps a small bag of travel accessories (like a male cosmetic bag thing) already packed. Maybe you can do that for him. Travel shaving cream, shampoos, toothpaste, toothbrush, q-tips, etc. - so it is always ready when he needs to go esp if he travels a lot.

I usually got stuck packing DH stuff too when we go away.

BUT -- I always have him lay everything out that he needs and then I'll pack it in the bag when I pack my stuff - I get home earlier then him so this is why I usually do it.

I have packed for him a few times and he was all grumpy b/c I didn't pack the right pants or the right shoes or whatever. I felt so bad about it that I told him never again am I picking out all of your stuff.

So my suggestion is to ask Roger to lay everything out that he needs at least.

DH doesn't travel much but when he does he is a big boy and knows how to pack his own underwear! He will usually say, 'does this match' or 'will this be ok to wear'...but beyond that I see no reason to pack for him. He was capable of doing it before we were married and I don't think the wedding took those skills away from him. I can't see him asking me to help him anyway. We do our own thing when it comes to that. I also like to remind him that I am not his mother and will not wait on him hand and foot. I'm trying to get that message across early on. We also still do our own laundry and that plan works for us. When I am not working and we have kids I'll be more than happy to take the lead on these types of things, but until then....50/50 for us.

The last time I didn't help him pack, he called me, and I asked where he was.

He was in a mall, in the Gap, buying underwear because he forgot to pack any.

So there's my answer. Yes I do now always.

Oh this is a big issue for me. DH travels a lot and I have no clue what he needs to wear! As you said, I don't know how many days are business formal as opposed to business casual. Plus, I am so super conservative when it comes to his suits and I pick out the most conservative ties and he hates that! So no, I do not pack for him and I do not feel bad.

BUT....oh, don't think his mother hasn't told me on more than one occasion how his ex-wife used to pack for him AND leave notes of what to wear with what. I just tell her he can always go back to her if he wants that!

Niecey I like that idea a lot. I usually pack that for myself when I go on trips

Stef28, I like the idea of him laying out his clothes, then he can't complain that I missed anything. For our HM we packed our things together and I forgot a lot of things for me, I had to wear some of his t-shirts

Thanks ladies

Noreen, there are somethings that I don't mind helping with, I don't think it makes me his mom, just being helpful. I guess like they say its whatever works for you.

Re: DOES ANYONE HELP THEIR HUBBY TO PACK WHEN HE

oh I HATE PACKING! I have been packing for him since DAY ONE - 10 YEARS AGO!

Shamma he won't even pack himself for an overnight stay in our house in East Hampton! I cannot TELL you the fights...We went to Paris and he complained for 5 DAYS that he didn't have the 'right black pants'. I could kill him just THINKING about it!!!

So....I have found some type of solution. I do boxers, socks (dress darks and two pair white), guinea tees, t-shirts and jeans. Then I tell him 'everything is ready except your 'fancy pants' - which means...you pick your dress clothing. I have to stay with him for this or he doesn't do it and will actually miss a flight I am sure. Then I ask him to pick his shoes and ties. He then has to line up his 'cosmetics' - he will do that but REFUSES to put them in the little bag. I add more razor blades, handful of q-tips, the quick fix razor nick stuff, his allergy meds, advil, tweezer and cologne.

Sounds like dealing with a 5 year old, right? Yes Shamma....it is....it really really is....

Thank Goodness DH is anal about packing his own, so I never have to. I HATE packing.

Jenny, I blame you indeed, you broke him like that, so you have no one but yourself to blame. I don't mind helping occasionally but I would not do it all the time.

Mary, that is harsh you know that is not where he wants to be, look at that smile on his face from your wedding pix, is that a man that wants to be elsewhere???

packing is THE WORST!!! Unpacking is not my favorite either!!!! But 'packing for two' is the PITS.

Re: DOES ANYONE HELP THEIR HUBBY TO PACK WHEN HE

I pack for him, I get all the stuff together and put it on the bed. Then I let him stuff it in a bag/suitcase. I do this BC if I don't he takes the most innappropriate things.. like shorts when we are going someplace cold, not enough nice 'gong out' clothing, etc. plus he ALWAYS forgets to pack the necessities so I do that too (charger for digi camera, phone, toothbrush, etc). Its just easier to do it than hear later 'honey, did you bring my ------'.

I 'help' by making sure he's packed the necessities, but he's generally on his own picking out what he wants to wear and putting it in the suitcase. Sometimes I'm around for consultation on a particular outfit or making sure he has suitable cothes for a particular event.

Ever since he forgot his tuxedo pants for a black tie wedding, I keep a closer eye on things

We are both pretty independant when it comes to stuff like this. Don't get me wrong, we work together on most things, but for us, we lived on our own for so long I think we are both accustommed to fending for ourselves.

No way! DH travels so often for work he's a packing professional. Aside from the fact that I have NO clue what type of clothes he needs to different meetings, he's a big boy and can handle that himself
We're very independent when it comes to things like this....up until recently he was doing his own laundry too. (I've since decided to help him out b/c I'm tired to seeing piles of clothes everywhere )

ONLY (and I do mean ONLY ~ no exceptions!) if we are dangerously close to missing our plane and he hasn't packed yet. That has only happened once, and based on the screaming and cursing that came from my dainty little mouth, and the look of fear and horror on his face, I highly doubt it will ever happen again!

Oh my what am I reading here what lovely wives we have here j/k ladies, its nice to see all different sides to an issue. I learn so much when you ladies post Keep packing Roger. Right now his suitcase is sitting on the floor open, I guess he is not done yet. I hope he does not forget anything. He went to Boston and he had to get a tie from Filene's Basement.
