I am pro-choice. Strictly from a budgetary standpoint, I dont think this should be supported. Right now there are a lot of ways this money could be better spent- but jmho

I put that I didn't have enough info to make a decision.

It's not exactly a great thing, but it's not exactly a bad thing IMO.

I am sort of on the fence about abortion. Apart of me doesn't really care about what women want to do with their bodies, and another part of me knows there is a living child in that womb. It's hard for me to give any answer to questions about abortion.

I am also pro life...and I agree with you completely.

Countries around the world hate and resent us, don't want our help with regards to the military, openly criticize Americans, and yet we should send money there to educate them on and perform abortions and family planning when there are starving children without health insurance in our country? Sounds like sh*t to me.

I am pro-choice also...I agree that there are things we need more than to have federal funding for abortions. Without getting into details though and causing drama....for some women who cannot afford to have a(nother) baby....I think those women would approve of this. I'm not in those circumstances, I don't know how it really feels to be poor and wonder where my next meal is coming from, and I am very grateful...I cannot imagine what those women go through. :(

P.S. Right now the poll is completely balanced :)

But we're not talking about federal aid to American women, its about federal aid to foreign countries regarding abortion and family planning.

Re: drama fodder

my personal opinion on abortion is that women need to be more responsible. If you can't afford a baby...why have unprotected sex? it's not fair to the baby to decide AFTER the deed is done that you're not ready. now I know that financial issues are not the only reason for an abortion and while i may not ever choose abortion as an option, I can't impose that on other people who may be in a tough situation...be it rape, health crisis due to pregnancy or such.

HOWEVER

the fact that this is foreign aid makes it worse. we are in such a deficit that I cannot understand how the first orders of business are things benefitting the welfare of people abroad

You said everything I was thinking.. but I do have to say that not every time you get pregnant its unprotected, as I was on the pill when my beautiful baby boy was conceived. But I still agree with everything you said, because I think alot of the time they are having unprotected sex.

I think there are two reasons this issue came up now. One is that the Roe vs Wade anniversary is today....Obama wanted to show his support for a woman's choice. The other is that one of the first things that Bush did in 01 when he became president is to put the ban back on (Clinton lifted it). So I think Obama did it partly to show that he is different from Bush (TG).
Also I don't mean to argue but....in a perfect world women would use bc every time...but we don't live in a perfect world, and no bc method is foolproof.

That was my first thought also, was 'he's doing this to prove he's different than GW Bush because like u said GW made this one of his first agendas.'

and I understand the part about BC not being foolproof. but I was taught not to open my legs if i wasn't ready for the consequences. I just think more people need to be taught this. A baby is not something to be handled...or 'fixed' like a simple mistake. it is the product of two people making an adult decision to do something that could result in the creation of another human being. Unfortunately not enough people see or treat babies as such.

I am pro-choice and pro-Obama ( ), however, I do not like the idea of this.. I don't think sending money to other countries for this is not going to help US right now. I think education on safe sex, maybe - but this is something that we could wait on,, and use that money for things in our own nation right now.

I'm 100% pro life, so no, I'm not for allowing babies to be killed here or anywhere. I can't believe that now not only are we promoting worldwide abortion but we, as taxpayers, are being forced to fund the atrocity. Obama pledged during his campaign that he wanted to 'reduce the number of abortions.' In scrapping the Mexico City policy....it is clear that that was a lie. I think its easy to talk *around* abortion without getting at the real issue...the bottom line is abortion kills a child, which is just heartbreaking to me. Beyond that, I think its important to understand how detrimental an abortion can be to women.

And Obama is pro-choice and pushing abortion rights for women's health?? Its really important to read the research. And this is just a FEW stats.

1) The risk of breast cancer nearly doubles after one abortion and
increases even more with two or more abortions.

2) Women who have had abortions are more likely to give birth to chil-
dren with disabilities.

3) Post-abortive women are likely to have worse health overall than
other women.

4) One in five women who have had abortions will suffer from post-
traumatic stress disorder — the illness most commonly linked with soldiers returning from the battlefront.

5) As many as 60 percent of women who have had abortions think
about suicide. (Another study of more than 173,000 American women who had abortions or carried to term found that, during the eight years after the pregnancy ended, women who aborted had a 154% higher risk of suicide than women who carried to term. And teen girls are 10 times more likely to attempt suicide if they have had an abortion in the last six months than girls who have not had an abortion, and 2-4 times more likely to commit suicide after abortion compared to adult women- sources for these 2 studies here ).

6) Women who abort are twice as likely to become heavy smokers.

7) Abortion is linked with a two-fold increased risk of alcohol abuse
among women.

8) Abortion is linked to subsequent drug abuse.

9) Women who abort are more likely to suffer from eating disorders
such as anorexia and bulimia.

10) Abortion is linked with increased depression and vio-
lent behavior — factors which are closely associated with child abuse.

.....Pro choice for womens wellness?

And just think, statistics show that nearly 1/3 of the current generation has been aborted. That is just shocking. Everyone is looking to Obama for hope, but I think Martin Luther King Jr's niece put it so perfectly. 'How can the 'Dream' survive if we murder the children?'- Alveda King

Can you fathom how forcing Americans to fund the killing of innocent children, now overseas too, will 'bring us together'?? How can anyone say 'Great! It's exactly what we need'??

It's just really sad.

of COURSE.... the *sources* are all from a Pro Life website.

FTR, although I am 100% pro CHOICE, I am not sure I agree with this... I think there are much better ways to use this $. Plus, I have a feeling there is MORE to this, than just funding abortions.. I have a feeling that people are CALLING IT to enrage people from the *other* side...

I just wish someone would cite a non biased source with these ridiculous *facts & statistics*

Re: drama fodder

i would like to know more about this issue--in how much goes to 'abortions' vs. just family planning. sometimes with these issues the media focuses sooo much on the thing that causes the most controversey. the program isn't JUST for abortions....its about family planning and birth control in foreign nations....i think programs like this are desperately needed in places like Africa or India where HIV is on the rise....as well as HUGE misconceptions about AIDS. (i.e.--there is no education and many men believe if they have sex with a virgin it will cute/prevent AIDS -- the younger the better and rapes have been on the rise of young children)

now if the money is going to fund programs like this--i'm all for it....i'd like the know how much is being allocated for abortions -- vs. family planning. many times with the media its all about hot button issues and they throw out 'its funding abortion!' without much explanation or going deeper into the topic.

In many countries, abortion is not an option and that includes rape victims.
