Dropped DH off the other night -- rough couple of days UPDATE

Original post by AeroJenn

Sunday at 2am I finally dropped off DH at Ranger School. Yesterday didnt go so badly til the evening -- I went to the pool with my friend April, whose DH also went to Ranger School with my DH. At 7:30pm I got a call from her saying her husband was home -- he had gotten cut. My DH was still there, but his ankle injury was causing a lot of pain. I guess I secretly was hoping he'd get sent home too and it was a lot to handle. I was so emotional.

I didnt drive to Florida today because I was thinking he might still get cut (they can be dropped at any point, but most guys get recycled in the first week) and turn up at home. I was wrong and still no sign of him. I'll be leaving tomorrow for Florida because now what I'm hearing is if he does get recycled from this point on they wont send him home...he has to stay there for 3 more weeks (no phone calls or visitation) and then join up with the next class of guys that come along. So, if he gets cut, he'll be gone for more like 3 months instead of the original 2.

I'm pretty upset -- i miss him, i wish i could talk to him (even for just 2 minutes) to find out whats going on, and I guess part of me is jealous that April's husband got to come home to wait out the next 3 weeks, whereas if Chris gets recycled he'll have to stay there.

I'm a wreck today. I did absolutely nothing today but sit around and try to get some info everything. and im just in the worst mood. I feel like I could cry at the drop of a pin.

So sorry Jen, you will make it thru this, you just have to be strong. I would imagine it is hard for him to be away from you too.

I'm sorry, Jenn; I know it's going to be rough but you'll get through it.

i think the absolute best thing for you to do right now is find something to take your mind off things so you aren't just sitting around and thinking ONLY of your DH at ranger school.

go out and volunteer somewhere....hospital, nursing home, goodwill, animal shelter.

or get yourself a job---i honestly think there is nothing better for your mental health sometimes, than an honest day's work....and you can meet new people.

i know its tough going thru this--but remember that your DH is going thru it as well...and probably even worse because he has to stay tough and train. so remember that, each time you start to feel a little like crying and think 'DH doesn't even have the luxury right now of being able to show his emotion and how much he misses me......time for me to cowboy up!' i know its easier said than done, but you will make it thru this.

I wasn't sure what exacly 'Ranger School' was so I googled it and read about it on Wikipedia.

It sounds rough! I don't blame you a bit for being scared and lonely!

I agree with Melissa's advice- if you dont already have one, get a job. If you do have a job, find some volunteer work.

Also, keep a journal so you can vent your sad feelings- then write all your happy feelings (memories, what you want to do with (or to ) him when he gets back) in cards and letters to DH.

Best of luck to you! Stay strong- you know DH will !!!

Jenn--so sorry to hear what you are going through. it's especially hard when other girls husbands get to come home and yours doesn't. i know how hard it can be when DH is away, mine is in the Army too. He's going away next week to California for training so I won't get to talk to him for over a month, which will be really hard. I'm planning on keeping as busy as possible, visiting family and friends, and I might even keep a journal of stuff i want to tell him, so i don't forget when we finally DO get to talk.

if you ever want to vent, FM me. Us Army wives have to stick together!

Jenn, is there a group of wives that have a support group at your base? I know at Bragg there were several groups that met as support groups during deployments and after. It might help to talk with others that are going through this or have gone through it before.

Jenn-- sorry I am crashing. I wanted to give you some I completely understand how you feel.

FH is active duty Marine Corps. Stationed in San Diego then stationed in Japan June of 07. He came home in MArch for predeployment leave and from March 22nd till a week before our wedding i wont see him. So I understand how hard it is. He is in Iraq right now and well I can't talk to him alot because of what he is doing.

It s*cks, it really does. But hang in there. You will make it through. He will be home before you know it. I don't want to say 4 months is a breeze because i have had to do it before, because it is different for every person. But keep your head up and stay busy. It definitely helps the time go by faster!!!

Enjoy Florida as well..I am not sure what you are going there for...but enjoy it and try not to dwell on the fact that he is gone. Think of how many days till he comes home. And make it the month or 2 months you though he would be gone for!! Good Luck with everything

And if you ever need someone to talk to you can FM me. I am here waiting just as you are and it is nice sometimes to talk to someone who is going through the same thing!!

My cousin just graduated Ranger school...it is AMAZING.

Keep writing him letters...he will need the support! Imagine being him! You must be so proud. I cant even imagine how tough it is for both of you.

I dont mean to be a downer here and always complain and moap in my posts, but tonight im just a MESS. I've been crying every 20 minutes. My mom is busy packing to meet me in Florida tomorrow, so she cant talk. My friend April is who I normally go to to talk down here, but her husband is home from Ranger School as of yesterday, so I dont want to bother them. I called my best friend from NY and talked to her earlier, but again, I hate to keep calling to vent and cry.

I had 3 panic attacks today -- one major one. I havent gotten one since the last time DH was in the field (he was gone for 10 days back in March). I've been doing SO well controlling them, but now that he's gone again...and for much longer....I feel like i have no control again.

I learned today that its very common for guys to recycle 3,4, even 5 times during Ranger School. Each time they recycle, they have to stay for an extra few weeks. So, its possible for him to be gone for as long as 4 months. I'm totally not prepared for this. I anticipated 2 at the most -- and even that...I feel unprepared for.

And I want to write him letters -- I know a lot of you have suggested doing that...but I know my letter would be depressing and I dont want him to be discouraged because of me.

Ughhhhh...I just feel horrible and nothing is making it better. I wish I could just fastforward through this all!

Thanks for listening girls. And again, I'm sorry if my posts are all depressing and venting, but you've all always been so supportive

Oh you poor thing! Maybe you can speak to someone or try something like yoga to calm your nerves? Does he have internet? How about a webcam? Feel better and vent away!
