Engagement/Wedding Gifts.

Engagement/Wedding Gifts.

When you received your gifts, did you take them out of the boxes and used them right away? Or do you still have them stored away and will open them up when you buy a new home or for any other reason?

Last night, I had to go dig deep in our storage closest looking for something for Dh and I started looking at all of our gifts. I forgot how many gifts we received! I was getting excited again!

We live in an apt. now and I just refuse to use our gifts yet until we move into our home (one day). I want new appliances for when we do get a new house. Plus, we just do not have the space in our apartment to store them other than the closest. I am just curious about everyone's situation.

That's nice! We lived together 5 years before we got married.

I probably wouldn't have opened my stuff then - maybe a few choice pieces to enjoy now - a nice vase, a pretty serving bowl ... but appliances & everyday stuff you already have I would have waited

Everything is still sitting in my old bedroom at my moms. I refuse to use it til we have a new place of our own. We live in a tiny apartment and nothing would fit here anyway. But I did take some stuff like towels and little knic knacs!! I get excited too going to my moms seeing all the fun stuff we'll get to play with one day!!

I have taken some knick knacks out. I am using my new shower curtain. But, as for the major appliances, china etc. I haven't unpacked them.

We lived together for 2 years before we got married so we had all the stuff we REALLY needed already. I replaced my old towels with my new ones and got rid of my old toaster oven and coffee maker to replace them with the new ones but almost everything else is packed up and stored away till we have a house for it!!

we started to use a few things before we got married. We've used most of our things, but a few are still in boxes.

Make sure your stuff at least works! We just started to use our espresso machine a few weeks ago and noticed that it doesn't work properly. Oh, the DRAMA at the store when I tried to return it!

Suven, That is so true! I didn't think of that! Last night, as I was rearranging the boxes I noticed that one of my boxes with China had one broken plate and one broken salad plate!!! Arghh!!! I have to go back to the store and hopefully, they we replace it! Otherwise, I have to buy the plates separetly!

We didn't live together before we got married either. However, I had an appartment in college and then for the last few years so I acquired A LOT of stuff over time. (I was afraid I would never get married so I asked for a lot of home items for presents over the years My parents gave me my Kitchen Aid mixer a few years ago.)

I have taken a few things to use. (Basically small stuff.) But everything else is waiting for the new house. (We're in the process of looking right now.)

Everything is being stored in my old bedroom at my parents house. We did check all of the china and crystal before it was stored. I have been wondering about the coffee maker, slow cooker, etc... but they're just in too deep to try out. I guess if I have a problem, I'll just do what suven did- change my wedding date at Fortunoff so that I can return them.

We have most stuff still packed away upstairs in a spare room. We only took out some stuff. We are getting ready to do construction on the house & will have a lot more room for things in a kitchen twice the size it is now.

We don't use most of our stuff, its all at MIL house. I did hold on to the Crock pot and some candlesticks we wanted.

But most of it I want to save until we have a house, besides that we have no room for it all

Re: Engagement/Wedding Gifts.

Our wedding was in October (my shower was in Aug) so our stuff remained in it's original boxes for over a year. While we were in the apartment there really wasn't a reason to unpack it. Then once we bought our house we didn't have a china cabinet or anything to display most of it. We just finally did our dining room in January and got two hutches. It looks awesome and I was soo excited to unpack everything. It was like being at my shower all over again. Plus I love using everything.

We are using everything but a few china items

Re: Engagement/Wedding Gifts.

We barely have used anything - we want to save everything/ The only things we opened were things that we really wanted to use now that we didn't already have - like the coffee maker and the Gizmo can opener. We did not replace old appliances (like the toaster oven) with the new ones - saving them!

Us too. It was fun setting up the apartment. Most of the other big stuff is either at my mom's (all my china) or my IL's house (random appliances and all holiday decorations)
