Eye makeup help

Original post by PeteysBride

Edited to avoid confusion!

Ok so I never EVER do smokey eye makeup because I think its heavy for me personally. But I was experimenting with it last weekend as a possibility for the B pics after seeing how well Heather's looked and DH just happened to catch me and looked very interested in it. So I decded to do it as one of the makeup looks.

Originally I used a tutorial but didnt have the colors the artist used so I tried soemthing close to it. Thats look #1.

Look #2 is the colors the tutorial used-a little more dramatic.
Which eye look? #2 would have a nude lip too but the lipstick was wrong (long story) so cut out my lip.

Look #1: Lighter 'smokey' eye and nude lips:

Look #2: Dramatic 'smokey' eye (this would eb with a NUDE lip too) BTW NO clue why my foundation looks so light here-same for both pics

DEFINITELY take a shot. I drink half of a strawberry daquiri! lol And once you start, I'm sure you'll get more into it and not be so nervous.

Thanks Mel. Yesi said the same thing. I think Im going to use the highlight color from Look #1 with the darker liner and lid look of #2- I feel funny wearing alot of makeup but I know the flash will wahs alot of it out. Like even here, looks like I am not waering much makeup but in person it was really stacked on.

jenn- out of those options, i prefer eye #2. you're beautiful so regardless you look great, but for some reason...gray is not jiving with me! you have such a beautiful darker skin tone!!! (id LOVEEE to have golden skin year round!!!) gray just seems too light though.

i think its just my personal preference though...bc i always prefer darker for smokey eyes. and not even anything to 'dark' or 'harsh' but just more golden-y/brown shades maybe. im not sure!

Aww thanks jess! miss you

Hmm ok here is an idea...what if I didn't use blacks and grays to smoke it out? What if i went for brown shades? like did a light taupey broze color for the highlight and a darker woody brown for the lid and then just dark brown liner and of course black mascara?

Maybe the eboneis just don't work with my skin tone.

miss you too!! Things have been crazy...busy and Im so sick.

Back to makeup! ...YOU gotta love it, Jenn. If you love this look, I would def go for it bc you have to be confident with the whole get-up for the b-pics. I think like i said, maybe its just that i generally prefer brown shades for smokey or maybe just a darker slate gray. Im not sure!

Seriously tho, regardless, you're going to look absolutely amazing. You can't look bad!!

Aww honey! Sick with what? You need to answer your phone woman. I dont like talking to machines

No no! I mant I don't love it. Like i usually wear taupes and browns, sometimes mauvey tones for my eyes. i did the black and gray because thats what is 'expected' of a smokey eye and I have never done one before.

But do you think I could manage the same effect with brown tones? it might beless harsh I am thinking. Or even mauvey purpley tones?

i like the smokey eyes too (#2), but then i remember that someone said that in some of their b-pics, it looked like it was TOO much make-up, so consider that also.

also, ur doing the whole 'cute' thing right? ( i dont mean 'cute' as in u can'tm pull it off, but 'cute' as in pigtails and stuff. so, in that sentence the quotes are NOT sarcastic :) ) so maybe the softer colors would look better?

I am not going to be wearing the same outfit or going for the same look in every pic. Changing it up-I already ahd the soft makeup look worked out. I just needed somethign sexier for the other shots.

Thanks honey. I think Im going to try it again with plum shades. I think its the highlighter shade that is just too bright for my skin. Have you ever done a smokey eye? I know you're close to my skin tone.

i know...don't be mad at me. I miss your calls way too often!!!

nate just got over a HORRIBLE whatever it is...cold/flu/virus...i don't know. i think he caught it from one of his students. awesomeeee.... i so thought i was in the clear. well now, my head feels like its going to explode, i have a soar throat that is so painful even if i just SIP WATER and i have a hacking cough. I havent had a normal night of sleep for the past 3 days. Im going to go to the doctor tomorrow bc Im worried that its going to go into my lungs...no good!!!

Buncha other stuff goin on, but what can ya do.

BUT i digress...back to the issue at hand here! you could definitely achieve it with any shade- plums, darker slate grays, browns/bronze.... have fun experimenting! dont forget to share w/ us. i remember pics you posted pre-wedding experimenting with prettty shades. some of those looked great. and you puleld off a fun red lip too! like others have said, i would do the red lip for some pics and see if the photog can show you how its photographing to see if you like it.

GL!

Re: Eye makeup help

i say DRAMA! but i like the lighter eyeshadow too!

either way, you could start off light, and then progress to darker, bolder, more mysterious eye shadow

Re: Eye makeup help

You really would not be able to go wrong with either one...both look beautiful, but I voted for #1
