Finding a Chuch

Hello Everyone,

Congratulations to all you newlyweds. I am venturing down the wedding path (9/904) , and I am now looking to you guys as the experts for some advice or suggestions.

I would very much like to get married in a church; I live in the Bronx, but we are getting married in Westbury, Long Island. I was told that many churches will refuse to marry some one if they are not a member, and I was wondering if you guys knew of a church that would marry us or wouldn't mind suggesting the church you were married in.

Thank you in advance!

Re: Finding a Chuch

I was married at St. Joseph in Hewlett. Neither DH nor I belong to that church. However, I think they married us there as a favor to my father's family, who were parishioners since he was a boy (he was an altar boy there, etc.) and my grandmother was very active in the church, serving as the treasurer (I think) when she was alive.

Ask around, I'm sure there are churches who don't mind...

Re: Finding a Chuch

also wanted to mention:

does it have to be Catholic (you never mentioned)

Protestant Churches tend to be a bit more liberal...and therefore maybe they would allow it?

Re: Finding a Chuch

What denomination? I got married at an Episcopal church outside of my area. We live in Suffolk and we got married in Sea Cliff in Nassau county. Episcopal churches also tend to be more leniant with those types of requests.

Re: Finding a Chuch

Hello Ladies,

Thank you so much for all of your input; you have no idea how grateful I am...

Just to answer a few of your questions:

Although, I am Baptist, I strongly believe Christianity is Christianity; hence, as long as I get married in a Christian church (Catholic, Methodist, Episcopal, etc.), then I am okay. I try not to get too caught up in the organized religion stuff. I believe in the holy trinity, and that's good enough for me.

Besides, I just want our union to be blessed; where one gets married is really just a matter of preference.

Thanks again for sharing your wonderful ideas and thoughts. I am really thankful I have such a great support system, such as you guys.

Hopefully, Bryan and I will find what we are looking for.

Cheers to you all! And to those who are still in the planning stages, good luck and to those who have leaped to the other side, congrats.

Re: Finding a Chuch

I'm pretty sure you have to be Catholic to get married in a Cathlolic Church. I agree with checking out the Historical Chapel. They are a vendor on this site
