for those of you who kept your name

Original post by summer06bride

I am wondering if I am the only one who am experiencing this...I went back to work this week...I am a teacher and everyone and I mean everyone asked me what my new name was...I told them it was the same as before...they all especially the women kinda looked at me tilted their heads and gave me a weird kind of look...as if saying really you dont love your husband do you...one person said you not ready yet huh...i kinda felt like saying why the hell do i need to change my name just cause i got married...instead i just kinda smiled...the plan was to be hypheranated (spelling) however my maiden name is very long and it just seems easier...so my question is do you feel like you need to defend yourself when you explain you are keeping your maiden name

I haven't changed my last name yet. I'm still not sure how I'm handling this. Right i have my maiden and married names on my paychecks but have nothing else is changed.

I have a totally easy last name like Jones or Smith and I'm not really ready to give it up to have a really ethnic name. Especially of an ethnicity that I'm not. It's been a major issue.

Regardless of my experience, no one should make you feel like you owe them an explanation. Its your choice.

I did take my hubby's name...but I am not using at work as it will cause way too much confusion. As soon as I returned from my HM everyone asked what my new name was...I just said, I'm keeping my old name at work.

I also kept my maiden name though - but I'm using as my middle name. I just couldn't let it go.
