Getting your hair done...how often and how much?

This is a constant agrument with DH and its starting to wear on me. He thinks it costs too much and that I go to often and always complains about it. Everytime I have an appt, he is like 'oh didnt you just go' And last time he told me to die my hair back brown! I think he was dead serious too and I am so irritated about this.

Anyway I go every 5-6 weeks. Sometimes I will wait longer but it depends. My hair is very dark and my roots show fast.

Full foil, cut and blow out usually runs $160-170

Everything other time I only get a half foil and blow out which is like $80-90ish.

Please tell me how to deal with this? Last time I told him I do not want to hear his complaints anymore...this is life!

4x a year for highlights and cut. My hair is very healthy and I take good care of it so I can wait that long. Why are you getting highlights done every 5-6 weeks? I thought it was every 10-12? That's what my colorist said.

same here- i go 4x a year- the last two weeks are not always so beautiful though

I thought mine told me 6-8 weeks. Ughh all I know is my hair must grow fast because I always have roots! It's so annoying!

same here I go every 4-5 weeks and dh gets upset he thinks I pay to much, but I really enjoy it. and I did dye my hair back to choc.brown, but I still go to get my hair trimmed and blow dryed. and my eyebrows waxed. I do not tell him he cant have a case of beer a week.. or not to get a hair cut.

i think jenn has chunky highlights and those need to be touched up more frequently - you def notice the root more with chunky highlights as opposed to thin weaved highlights - i went to beauty school, was licensed for a bit and worked in a salon - chunky styled highlights need more maintenance....

My colorist told me 4x a year for highlights. Full process is probably more often. Cut should be every 6-8 weeks. I decided not to that and just get the cut when I get my highlights done.

Maybe you feel your roots are showing, but they probably aren't. My hair grows super fast and I only go 4x a year.

Ah yes this may be the problem! I like the thin highlights but they dont show up in my hair that good because its curly, etc - so I went bolder and bigger with chunky. Also my hairdresser is pretty good and usually gets it right on the root, but I had to go somewhere quickly in the city last time and she did such a su-cky job and now I need to go again already!

I pay 90 for a full head of highlight color cut and blow......i dont time it i got when starts to look bad

I also go every 5-6 weeks. I cannot stand roots. And I think its fair that you get just a partial every other time.
Each person needs to have $$$ to spend on themselves, explain that to DH. Girls are girls - they like to look good. He needs to understand that. Nothing feels better than leaving the salon with nice highlights and a blow out!!!

I pay $100 for partial hi/low lights, cut and blow out..

I try to wait longer but I usually cant last more then 8 weeks. I hate when my roots start to show. I usually get half a head of highlights and low lights and then a touch up on my red, a hair cut and blow out....it usually runs me between $80-$130 depending on if I get it cut or not.

This is the reason I was thinking about going all red, I feel like the roots dont show as often and I can do it myself and save the money.

jenn i think every 6 weeks is reasonable - if i wasnt so lazy that is how often i would go too - and i just get color no highlights....but instead i walk around with hideous roots - mine are lighter than the color i dye my hair so it looks even weirder when they come in

maybe if you sneak to the salon your DH won't notice j/k j/k

I go about every three months for highlights and a single process. I lighten my very dark brown hair to a light brown and add dark blonde foil highlights so when it grows out, it looks more natural and I can get away with waiting. When I had much lighter blonde highlights, I had to go more often to prevent the lovely 'skunk' look. Now that I have shorter hair, I might have to get a haircut in between.

My DH doesn't complain because I use my money for things like this. As long as I don't dip into the household funds, I can spend my money as I please.

I am about 40% gray, so I do a single process dark brown. Color every 6 to 7 weeks, $40.00.
Every three months I get a cut and blow dry, $30.00.
Nails, every 2-3 weeks for fill ins $36.00. Every 3 months, new set for $60.00.

Aren't we worth it to look beautiful ?

I get in the same argument with DH, he thinks it's too expensive and I agree but it's my hair! Usually the highlights start at 160 and than a blow out is 25.00 more and a cut is usually 50-70 depending on where I go, it is insane how much you can spend but I can't put a price on my hair sorry!

Well hair isn't an issue for me bc I don't dye it so every cple months I get a cut and blow. The place I go isnt expensive so I dont spend much at all.

HOWEVER I do spend a lot on nails every cple weeks. Honestly if you love your hair blonde and want it that way to me it's an expense you can't afford to get rid of I mean if you love it I think its worth it..I know from my friends blonde is very expensive to maintain

I go every other month. I usually do highlights in the summer but since times are rough i have dyed my hair back to its natural color which my DH prefers. I want a haircut so bad but have no money!!

I am so lucky with this. My hairdresser works out of her house now. So, i used to pay 200 every time i went to the salon, now i pay 85!! I go every 8-9 weeks for hilight, cut , and blow out.
